In this video my daughter and I will show you how we built the CFT (Continuous Flow Through) worm bins we use on our farm. This one is 8ft by 2.5ft and 4ft tall. It holds about 1.5 cubic yards of material which is roughly 3,000lbs. It's a pretty simple build and it took us just an afternoon to do. We have a bunch on the farm and feed them weekly to process all the food scraps we get through our Food Scrap Pickup Service. And then weekly we can harvest the vermicompost or black gold to add to our garden or provide to our customers.
Overall Materials and Supplies:
23 - 5ft 1/2 diameter conduit cut in half ($63.25)
7 - 8ft 2x4s ($35.84)
2 - 4x8 sheet of plywood ($73.64)
Total cost was $172.73 (plus tax, plus screws)
Tools used:
Pipe Cutter
Chop Saw
Circular Saw
Hammer
Drill/Driver
Screws
Saw Horses
So you can see it's relatively inexpensive, materials and tools that most people have at home or are relatively easy to access, and honestly you can probably buy the boards cut down already.
