I like the idea of a number of quality pieces that last. I worry about clothes in landfills and I also worry about unfair labor practices that are used in clothing manufacture. Thank you, Trinny, for a great video!

I love this episode sooooo much Trinny. Sustainability has become so important for me not only for the environment but for my pocketbook. I fell into a deep depression spending too much on items I didn’t need to fill up a void in my life that I didn’t know was so big. Please keep up this idea. It’s so important for so many reasons. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love from the US

Such a fabulous post Trinny. An honest insight into your wardrobe confessions. We all need to think about waste. Some of today's high street fashion is so cheap it's enabled us to become a throw away society, of which I'm so guilty of too. Amy could teach us so much. Hoping you both get to do a video on a charity shop trip soon.

Yes💕💕💕💕💕 I adore vintage. I buy 90% of my clothes..... mostly 60s and 70s gorgeous dresses especially maxi...from etsy. Stunning, unique , well made often one off handmade items. Never going g back. Cheaper and better value that shops. Also they fit me.

I think your wardrobe is pretty sustainable, Trinny. You buy quality items and keep them forever, altering them as necessary. The most sustainable clothing is what’s already in your wardrobe. I buy natural fabrics, even if I get tired of say, a silk shirt, someone else will want to use it, unlike synthetic fiber fast-fashion items.

Thank you for putting this out there we all have to many clothes, shoes, handbags I'm as guilty as the next, but I've been shopping only pre- loved clothes for years on ebay, the charity shops near me, I've even found brand new items with the tags still on them for an amazing bargain! Makes me feel so happy to get them home wash them & then there all mine. If your shopping on line, type in your size, be specific about what your searching for & put what colour you what. You can also ask the seller any questions you might have about the piece your interested in, & you can make an offer rather than just pay the price the seller is asking. You will be delighted with what comes up, & you will have a wonderful time like shopping loads of different shops in the comfort of your own home, with a lovely cup of coffee, saves not only time but you will save loads of money. Enjoy!

Iv been buying predominantly 2nd hand for over 20 years, since I was a kid going with my mum. At 12 years old and started volunteering a few hours a week at a charity shop (taught me about work so I had a good work ethic for my 1st job once I was legal work age) and have been shopping charity shops, markets and eBay ever since. It’s the thrill of the hunt and the opportunity of getting a bargain. I sell my items once I’m done with them, which gives them another life more than donating, and you can even make money if you buy 2nd hand, enjoy it then resell 🤩

I loved this. It was a bit different from your normal content and has certainly reminded us all that there is pure gold to be found in charity shops. I think you need time to search in shops ( it’s not a quick pop in and out) and you need to visit shops regularly, but when you find something fabulous the feeling is great. Also just a heads up, there are some amazing pre loved items for your home in charity shops too! Would love some more content like this one please, it was great 👏👏👏👏

Oh I can’t even express how insanely thrilled I get when I find a real good keeper piece from thrifting. Recently I found a Tiffany &co crystal candle holder!!! It felt quite heavy in when I picked it up. I turned it around to see very discretely in halo graphic the words Tiffany and Co. and I scream squealed right there in the store when I saw it turned bright red when people looked at me. But I didn’t care. I got it for $3!!!! 🎉 eBay is my go to place to find designer goods at good deals. I’ve purchased the knee high Stuart Weitzman boots for $200. Prada loafers (Calzatura Donna in black) for $180. Tory Burch midi dress that fits me perfectly for $78. Those are my favorites but I’ve so much more that I’ve even altered some pieces if I had to and the quality is there. Love this kind of video TRINNY!! You are such an awe inspiring professor of being mindful and healthy. I learn something new or different from you every video. Even though I came to your channel for the cosmetic tips & techniques but stayed for everything else you & your adorable team give us knowledge on. 💛 Edit: 😮whoa. I commented before I watched!!! Can not believe we were finding the same type things!!! My TB dress is very similar to yours. So cool.

Most of my shopping is consignment and charity shops. What I love is that I can test a new to me brand without paying retail. I have discovered new brands that I now love. Treasure hunting can be fun and I love unexpected gems but it also helps to shop with a purpose. I save items online or gather pieces in-store and think about how they will work in my wardrobe. Tips for shopping: know your measurements. Take your favorite pieces that fit you well, they them flat and measure them. That way when you are buying a piece online or in a shop that doesn't allow try-ons (just remember to take the tape and measurements with you), so you will know if a piece will fit based on your measurements. This is especially true when buying pieces that contain wool, cotton, or material that can shrink. I bought a wool size 6 blazer knowing it would fit me as a size 4. My assumption is that it was at the charity shop because the dry cleaner shrunk it a full size and it no longer fit the original owner. My last tip is to take your charity shop pieces and take them immediately to the cleaners or put them in the dryer for 30 minutes to kill any potential pests. You can also put them in a sealable bag, place them in the freezer for two weeks, take it back out for a week and then refreeze for another week. I have never had a pest or moth from a second hand store but I know that not all sellers launder their pieces. This is especially true if you're buying a new with tag piece from an online reseller. Happy shopping!

I have only shopped ( apart from underwear) from charity shops for the last three years. BUT on one visit to one of these shops, I discovered a large amount of bags being taken out to a van - if it hasn’t sold in a month the clothes go for shredding! Apparently they don’t have the space to store from one season to the next. I was horrified! I’m sure there are people desperate for unwanted clothes in this country.

I've worked in charity retail for many years and most charity shops rag/recycle around 50 -70% of all their clothing donations This is still better than it going into a landfill. Most charities will post online where they send their clothing remnants so you can check how ethical they are.

Thrilled to see you highlighting this area, Trinny. But it shouldn’t just be for September - we all need to radically rethink our approach to consumption. I’m always sceptical about the advice to ‘declutter’ things that haven’t been worn for a year or don’t fit; so often we can fall back in love with a piece or style so madness to just end up rebuying. I store things away if too big of too small in labeled boxes. Also have one which I call ‘not feeling it’ (currently full of skinny jeans amongst other things).
@elalogar7340

I don't agree with the declutter advice either, it's not for me, at least, since the jumper that I stopped wearing four years ago might me my favourite thing this winter. It wouldn't be the first time that happened.

Donating isn’t always the answer. In some cases 90% of donated clothes ends up in landfill due to oversupply, damage, poor quality, doesn’t sell, understaffed, ‘work for benefits’ staff who don’t care and just dump it instead of sorting it. Selling old clothes actually gives the clothes a chance at a 2nd life, and gives you money to then buy other 2nd hand clothes. Please buy from charity stores but reconsider over-buying then bulk donating.

I have been purging because I have lost five stones this year. I have lots of clothes with labels on. I didn't want to sell through resale because they take two thirds of the sales price for example If they sell a good blouse for $9 they pay the original owner $3. Goodwill in the USA now have their own for profit seller. They pick out the best donations and mark them up high and sell them online. The items sold in their stores are too expensive now for a lot of people, eg jeans for $7. So, I called a local Women's shelter and they said they take donations every day! the smart items go to another address for job interviews...I'm thrilled that I will be helping others that can't afford charity clothes. Poshmark is a very good resale store in line here in the States We are so in need of more charity shops especially because our Major cities are far away from many people homes. Thank you for your great videos Trinny, I have to say though that this video is very grainy..sorry. 🥰

Don’t get rid of your duplicates, you will regret it. I would wash them and remove them to a special cabinet, though. That will make your other cabinets more spacious. Then, if one wears out, you can bring out the new one instead. Getting rid of things is much less important than just to stop adding new ones.

Keep Your Multiple Items Trinny!!! I Don't Agree w/the idea that having Multiples makes a garment Less Special... I have had pieces go missing that I haven't been able to replace... If you can imagine yourself wearing a certain piece forever & it's not made from an "indestructible" fabric having multiples creates longevity!!! IMO😘 P. S. Please don't hat rid of your doubles! There's no reason why a beautiful piece you love shouldn't feel as special because you own two! The following disasters have already happened to a piece I lived to wear and that was an important part of various outfits: dry cleaner ruining it , washing it with the wrong program, an accidental stain the day I really wanted to wear it, button falling off and you don't have the time to saw it back on... I'm sure there are a thousand good reasons one can find for keeping a double! 🙂
