Gotta say, your videos are getting funnier (=ing more entertaining). So.... my credentials. I was a machinist in the Air Force. That carrier field included welding. I have owned and ridden to structural failure many off road vehicles (cycles, quads, buggies, sand rails, odysseys). There is more but ima move on. First though I wanna say ; the most important thing is that you are doing this, i really love what you are doing, don't let the haters slow you down, great job. Ok, I have two things I wanted to say about the build. The unsprung weight is probably fine, and if it isn't you'll get bent shafts, no biggie. The second is more of a concern. The frame bar under the bottom corner of the battery is supporting a lot of weight over a small area. By having it on such a focused point, it is more likely to bend. I would personally add a small C channel piece over that bar to spread out the moment of forces. It is possible you will never have a problem with this. You've shown enough of yourself riding that i get a general gauge of your skill, and it seems unlikely that you will be doing any BIG AIR any time soon. But it is possible you might have a moment of bravery and decide to climb that hill you maybe shouldn't. Something like that can cause a roll over and if that happens this week point could be exposed. Additionally a friends teenager, on a weekend out riding, could expose the same problem. If that part of the frame ends up bending, it will be much harder to fix later, and if bending changes the geometry of how the battery is held in, it might pop out and crush a leg or something. The fix is simple enough that for me it would be worth doing before continuing. At one point when i was building a side by side buggy I had to learn the equations for how force is applied over time (i have since forgot much of it). But at the time i did find it useful because i kept bending A arms. I made some minor adjustments and the next thing that failed was the spindle.... LOL, it was an improvement from my perspective.. Anyway I hope you will consider reinforcing that area. Even if it's not for you, there is a chance at some point someone jumps on this thing and really puts it through its paces, and that would be the type of failure worth shoring up. Also ... I don't know how heavy that battery is ... I'm imagining it as a really large lead acid... so maybe my concern is much less warranted? Its all Pounds, Points, and Time BB....... also also ... "soft pull"... brother you slay me.

Adding unsprung weight to increase off road capability is what the entire off-road aftermarket is built around. Sooner or later, somebody is going to mount compact electric motors on a pair of live axles and you are going to get a revolution in off roading. Deleting drive shafts and transfer cases, then replacing them with flexible power cables and you lose a whole lot of weak points and gain crazy articulation.

@JasonWW2000
4 жыл бұрын
I can't tell if you're being humorous or not. Assuming you're serious, it's true that a lot of people do not appreciate the work that goes into your factory engineering. On the other hand when you mod stuff yourself you don't have to have the same high standards as the factory. For instance the factory designed it to handle large jumps whereas Rich is not going to be doing big jumps, so his design might be perfectly fine based on what he plans to do with the quad. I'm sure he plans to just ride it around a little bit and do a little off-roading, nothing serious. So his work should be just fine for that.

Certified welder here, nice work! Most shitty welds will still hold more than enough weight than they’ll ever need to. Your welds look decent, and the shot at 5:15 I can offer some suggestions by the look of the weld. Seems you have your heat set right since both the top and bottom edge are fused, but the weld itself looks big and bulgy. Try going a tad bit slower/smother to see if that evens your beads out, if not try turning the wire speed down. Tbh I suggest experimenting with the heat and wire speed to see what effect each has until you find your sweet spot. But ain’t nobody got time for that. Great looking bike brotha
