Mars has long captured our imagination. By drawing on Earth's history of colonization and exploitation, we may be one step closer to having humans inhabit the red planet. #Mars #CNN #News

Prepping for travel to another planet is a constant goal. You know what you have to prepare for. Laws of gravity are already known. The behaviour of vaccum in the space is already known. Sunlight, speed, everything else. Its very easy once you get the calculations and the predictions right. The science is established. The variables are small and easy to incorporate. What do you know about a pandemic before it happens? Gazillions of viral strains of about a billion different viruses, very small, submicroscopic and subcellular, constantly evolving and changing their genomic structure and their modes of infection and the target organ that they infect. How can you prepare for it? It's like trying to dodge an attack while blind. Think about this right now, and think about it the next time you try to make a comment.

Space exploration has the potential to alleviate many of our problems. Unlimited resources to begin with. Oh please. I was out as soon as they said Mars was the closest planet (it's not) and they handwaved about radiation. Venus has a VERY hot temperature, so no one dismisses that with a wave, but Mars radiation is just as damaging. We will not colonize Mars anytime soon (~100 years) and even then it will be extremely limited. You want self-assembling structures? Why? Assembly isn't the issue, weight is. You want to live underground on Mars? How? You don't even fully understand the substrate and tectonic forces. This is a whole lot of wishful thinking, performed by people who think the US colonization needs a do over.
