45 of the Envigo beagles arrived to ARC's Rescue Center late Thursday night. These dogs were bred to be used for pharmaceutical research and testing. Like other animals used in animal testing, the dogs at the Envigo facility were subject to heartbreaking neglect and abuses. There were multiple violations of federal regulations, to the point where a judge directed the rescue of the 4,000 remaining dogs at Envigo, which has been a massive collaborative undertaking in the rescue world. The dogs need a lot of care; the Department of Justice described conditions at their breeding facility as "torturous."
When ARC’s good placement partner Priceless Pet Rescue reached out to ARC with a request to take several dozen of these dogs into our Rescue Center to care for them and socialize them until Priceless Pet Rescue is ready to accept them into their adoption program, we were glad to help. Thursday morning started like every other morning for the dogs - in a barren cage at the Envigo facility. That night they slept in roomy habitats for the first time, with cozy beds and toys. Animal Rescue Corps is glad to play a small role in helping the Envigo 4000 - thanks to your compassion in action. Please join us in welcoming these little survivors and learn more: animalrescueco...
