Hi George; The custom shape tool was a great reminder to its potential, thank you for that. I have a question in regards to bounding boxes; the move tool is optioned in the tool option panel to turn its bounding box off & on; When using other tools that display bounding boxes, such as the free transform, crop and text, do they have keyboard short-cuts available to turn off & on their accompanying bounding box? None of the tools I just mentioned appear to be optioned for the feature in the tool panel. I find when using tools with bounding boxes, it can be a difficult task to position a layer in an obscured location due to the confinements and busyness of the bounding box. .

Hi Brian, select the Move Tool and then open the Options panel at the bottom. On the left side you will see 2 check boxes, one for Auto Select Layer and another for Show Bounding Box. Uncheck the Auto Select Layer to stop seeing the box around objects as you move the cursor around the image and uncheck Show Bounding Box to stop showing the Bounding Box when an Object Layer is selected. george

@@HTGGeorge thank you for your reply George; . Do you know if there are key board short cut keys that will turn off/on the bounding box for the Text (T), crop (C) and free transform tool (Ctrl t) ?
@HTGGeorge
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, you need the bounding box for the free transform tool as you are actually transforming the bounding box, not the contents of the box. The contents just follow along, so that box is required. Same holds true for the Crop tool, you need the bounding box to accurately control a crop. The text box should be hidden when you uncheck that checkbox. I don't know of any keyboard shortcuts to control these settings. Photoshop Elements is a little light on keyboard shortcuts, unlike Adobe Photoshop which has loads. George

@@HTGGeorge There's a keyboard short cut available for hiding the marching ants "CNTRL (H)" also found and accessed under the menu heading "VIEW" this is what got me wandering if there might be a shortcut key for the bounding box. Thank you so much for your time George, it's very much appreciated.

You're welcome Brian, about 3 years ago I put together a list of keyboard shortcuts for Photoshop Elements, here's the link: howtogurus.com/ECO/files/adobe_pse_keyboard_shortcuts.pdf. The document needs updating but it is accurate through version 15 of PSE. George

How do I get rid of side black bars on the side of a picture or video?
@HTGGeorge
5 жыл бұрын
Hi, depends on how they got there. Usually it is because your image or video is standard format and you are viewing it widescreen. With a photo you can stretch or replace the background. Nothing you can do with a video without re-recording or re-producing the video in the correct widescreen format. George

What size will I need to get rid of the black side bars ? so my Picture will fit the whole screen for a video?
@HTGGeorge

Another way is to build the project to fit your needed size. So figure out what your video size is and then build the project to match. George

How To Gurus how do I find out what size I need?
@HTGGeorge

Hi, you need to tell me where and how you want to use your picture for me to figure out how to tell you what size you need. Are you talking about using a picture on KZitem, or Daily Motion, or Vimeo, or Instagram, or Facebook, or Twitter, etc. And what size is your picture right now. George

@@HTGGeorge Thank you for taking the time to help..I have a picture that has two black sides. that I want to have the Picture l cover the Black sides..The picture is 7"x7" I want to the add the Picture to a video I will be uploading to KZitem..how do I find out what size my picture is? How do I make the Picture Bigger?
@HTGGeorge
5 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you are talking about using your picture as the thumbnail for a KZitem video then the size I use for that is 1280x720px at 72ppi. That translates into a picture that is 17.78"x10". So since your picture is square you will need to add a lot of new information onto the side to get rid of the black bars. If you look at the thumbnail for this video I left in the bars at the sides of the image, actually replaced those with dark red which looks better. So the thumbnail is at the 1280x720 but the picture inside that thumbnail is framed with a red background. This is a trick I use a lot if I don't want to alter an image but it is the wrong size for KZitem. The correct choice for you will depend on your image. If you can add in additional background like in the other video I showed you then that is what I would do, but if your image really won't work well with more background added in then I would do a trick like I did in this video. Take a look at the Video page on my channel and you will see lots of other examples of how I fit images into the KZitem format. George

It all looks so simple - apart from the polygonal lasso which I am totally hopeless at using; I don't have your sureness of touch!

You are right Peter, a basic project, mostly for the beginners on my channel. The Polygonal Lasso just takes practice. An even better choice is to use the Pen tool in Photoshop or use the Pen Tool in Gimp along with Photoshop Elements like I demonstrated in an earlier project. The biggest benefit of the Pen Tool is that you can go back and easily modify the path, with the Polygonal Lasso what you click is what you get. Wish Adobe would add the Pen Tool to PSE, but I doubt they ever will. George
