I am using Photoshop Elements 2020 and the "minimize. maximize, and close" options do not appear as options when I open a new blank file or open the recent pictures. I am hopeful this is an setting that needs changed more than an option that was removed in the 2020 version. Thanks so much for your time and these helpful videos.

George, question sir, when you use your gradient the check box on "Dither" is checked. What is the purpose of dither? I have thought it to mean some kind of random order? Would unchecking dither give you a "less textured" look to your gradient? Thanks Rich
@HTGGeorge
8 жыл бұрын
+MrMoonpie001 Hi Rich, Dithering is a blending technique used by Photoshop Elements to smooth out a gradient if there is a limited color palette. It is selected by default but will have no effect on a full color range RGB image like I use in this demo. Depending on the device you are viewing the above video on you may see some texturing of the gradient in the video but that will be due to video compression used by KZitem and your computer, not from the original image. George

+How To Gurus Thank you George for your response. After your explanation above and checking myself and my work flow I discovered the root of my confusion. I did not realize that the words "Dither and Jitter" were two totally different concepts. I would appreciate your response on what Jitter means also, just in case future newbes run into this mental block. To me Jitter is the same as random and is used with a tool like the paint brush when I want to have a random look to what ever effect I am painting onto a layer. Getting back to the word Dither for a second, can this be viewed as like antialias except on a much larger(larger than pixel) scale, or more like a color fade, or are we really talking about a effect with its own special properties? In other words if PSE had no dither option on a gradent what would be the next closest simulation? Thank you again! Rich
@HTGGeorge
8 жыл бұрын
+MrMoonpie001 Hi Rich, you are correct about Jitter. Basically Jitter is a random selection within a range of two values. To be more specific in Photoshop if you have a Hue Jitter set on a brush in the Brush Settings dialog box the color will bounce around randomly between the foreground and background colors. Normally the foreground color is used, with Hue Jitter the brush will also use the background color and any color in the range between the foreground and background colors. The higher the setting the more random color from that range and the more the color will include the background color. So a low Hue Jitter setting with keep your colors at or near the foreground color, the higher the setting the more colors you will see that move towards the background color. I am doing another Christmas Card video right now using a Snowflake Brush and the Hue Jitter, Scatter, and Spacing settings in Brush Settings. There is a demonstration and discussion of each of those settings in that new video "Snowflake Christmas Card" (going up this evening, for anyone not reading this comment today: the video is already up). @HTGGeorge

Hi John, it sounds like you are skipping a step. Create a new blank file first set at the Photoshop Elements default size which should be 6x4 inches at 300 Pixels/Inch. Next open the City picture and then drag the background layer of the city picture over to the new blank file. It will give you the city picture on a new layer above the blank background layer. It sounds like you are just opening the city picture and looking at that, which will have the city on the background. If you don't have floating windows like I use in this demo watch this video (shown in PSE 15) on how to use floating windows. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uWhsrZVqo2aAbKw George

Hi Bonny, sure, use whatever you want as a background. To make the text look like it is pushed into the sand get rid of the drop shadow and use a Layer Style Bevel, you will need to adjust the light direction, up or down setting, and size to match the lighting of the sand. George

+Cindy Henson Hi Cindy, here is how to activate floating windows in PSE. First open the Edit Menu and at the bottom click on Preferences. In the General section of Preferences there are two check boxes that need to be checked. Allow Floating Documents in Expert Mode and Enable Floating Document Window Docking. With those checked you will be able to grab the name tab of the image window and drag it away from where it is docked. It will snap into a floating window. To put it back just drag the name tab back up to the top of the window area, when you see a light blue line above the window let go and it will snap into the docked position. You can show or hide the rulers from the View menu. George

I can't move my lens flare after it becomes a layer. Any idea why?
@HTGGeorge
7 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you put the lens flare on a black layer and set the layer to Multiply Blend Mode you will then be able to move it around. You may need to extend the black around the lens flare if that causes an issue. Also you need to keep the lens flare away from the edges or you may see the lens flare cut off on an edge. If you put the lens flare on an image layer it is locked to the image. George www.howtogurus.com

Hi. First of all, thanks for posting this video. The issue I have is at the 2:10 mark of your video: when I drag the photo onto the new file, the size is very small. It doesn't maintain the dimensions of the original photo. And if I expand the small photo, it loses the resolution. How do I fix that?
@HTGGeorge
7 жыл бұрын
Hi, it sounds like you are trying to put a 72px per inch image into a 300px project. My suggestion would be to open the 72px image separately and up the resolution to 300px (Image/Resize/Image Size) Use the Bicubic Smoother setting in the drop down list. Photoshop Elements will need to make up 228 new pixels per inch to increase the resolution to 300 so there will be some loss in sharpness and detail. Then try sharpening that photo either using the Sharpen tools in the Enhance menu or using the tricks in my video on sharpening kzitem.info/news/bejne/l4Shx5efs4WhpGU. Then when you have done the best you can to enlarge the image and repair any quality loss you are ready to import that image into your other project file. I will be doing a video on how to handle this exact problem this coming week. George
