George, now this is 100% Pro grade photoshop work!!!! You answered many of my questions I had for a long time especially in dealing with different color cast. I have used the filters for sometime now, but still needed to push it beyond that. Your tips and tricks cover all the bases and would have never guessed beforehand how to do it. A big "Thank you sir!" on this video, one of the all time greatest!!! (people are really sensitive to photos that seem photoshopped) These tools make it almost impossible detect any issues! Thanks again for all you do! Rich

I've used the burn tool but never used the sponge tool to fix the edges after using the refine edge tool. Explaining what those tools do helped a lot. Thanks George. P.S. It was a interesting to see how you used a new (top)layer with the paint brush and the blend mode to create the lighting effect on the back side of the 2 ladies. "Pure creative genuious" on your part. Again thanks.

You're welcome Rick! Both of those are old tricks but it has been a while since I showed them in a video. The desaturate sponge trick works great if you are going to be putting color back in like I did with the sunset colors, and that color trick is just the ticket for giving that back lit look. George

Yep, its an oldie but a goodie. Plus this gave me a chance to demonstrate that Select Subject tool in PSE 2020, not really that useful for me as I will probably still do my selections using other tools but it can be a great time saver especially for the less experienced user. George

Thank you for this awesome demo. I tried to do it the same way with the landscape pictures I have but it didn't work or maybe I did not know how to exactly apply it. How can we change a background that only shows through a window in a picture? Meaning, I have two pictures and I want to combine them and show the forest picture as a background but it only shows through the window of a porch scene.

Great work George on all of your videos. I'm a little stuck on this one! Once my subject is selected and the marching ants appear I have selected the tool and refined edge. However the 'ants' remain on screen and I have been unable to move on! My Refine Edge popup menu appears and I have followed your instructions but when your screen changes to the tint my 'ants' remain. I'm in the UK and would like to work on this once I know what I might be doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you. How do I take the image from Photoshop and transfer it onto a video in Premier Elements? I want to place the subject from a photo onto of a video.
@HTGGeorge
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, first save the image in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as a jpg or png file at the highest resolution setting. If you want transparent areas then save it as a png 24 file. Next open Premiere Elements and click on Add Media. There is a large button for this but you can also find it in the File menu. Find your saved file and import it. This adds the file to the Project Assets, then simply drag and drop from Project Assets into your project. To place it above your main video drag it onto a video track above your main video. It will come in with a default length but you can adjust that length by either grabbing a side of the image on the video track and dragging it in or out, or Right click, Clip/Timestretch to type in a specific time value.

Hey George, which brush is better for fine-tuning hair?: The Refine Edge brush or the Refine Selection brush?? They are two totally different brushes, yet seem to accomplish the same effect. Is one just better than another or are there specific uses for each? Thanks!! Jeff (and thanks for another great PSE upload!)
@HTGGeorge

Hi, Photoshop Elements 2020 only has a Refine Edge brush, are you asking about a plugin? George
@TheTucsonJeff
4 жыл бұрын
@@HTGGeorge: Sorry, George -- I should have told you I'm using PSE 2019 (which I just bought a few weeks ago, not knowing that 2020 would be available already!!!). No, the Refine Selection Brush is not a plugin, and comes with PSE 2019. To the right of the Polygonal Lasso tool in the tools section is the Selection Brush tool. When you hit the Selection Brush tool, there are additional selection brushes shown in the bottom left corner (Quick Selection, Magic Wand, etc.). Down there also is the Refine Selection Brush which, at one time in the past, was touted as the new way to refine hair selections. So, in my 2019 PSE, I have _both_ the Refine Selection Brush and the Refine Edge Brush under the Select menu (which also works great for hair selection), but I've never seen _any_ articles discussing the differences of these two similar brushes. So, if PSE2020 no longer has the Refine Selection Brush, I guess that would answer my question. Here's a Steve Griseti KZitem link to the features of the Refine Selection Brush: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2GOQqI5mhGhliII

Now I see what you are referring to. I usually ignore that Refine Selection Tool, which has been around for a while now. It is kind of like a Quick Selection Adjustment tool, more than a Refine Selection tool. Basically it allows you to add to or subtract from an existing selection and like the Quick Selection Tool it will try, somewhat, to find the edges. It isn't very good at that. I usually don't use any of these Quick tools as they usually don't do a good job. The only reason why I used the Quick Select tool in this video is that it shows how the new Select Subject tool works. What I usually do is to draw a loose selection around a subject and then clean that up with the Refine Edge tool. Now to answer your question directly, the Refine Edge tool is the one to use on hair. That Refine Selection tool is hopeless on hair, well pretty much hopeless on most things which is why I never talk about it. George

HI, Photoshop Elements is a one time purchase. When you buy the program you are getting a lifetime license. You can get a free 30 day trial version from Adobe which would need to be purchased after the 30 day trial ended. I only recommend purchasing from Adobe either through their site or through Amazon, if you are looking to purchase from some other source on a site like eBay I would not trust the CDs.

Adobe doesn't offer a regular upgrade but they often have sales discounts throughout the year for upgrade pricing. If you are talking about my training course if you have the 15 course you don't need the 2020 course, not enough has been changed to make that worthwhile. Jules Moyaert. Upgrade from a prior PSE to the current version (2021) for $79.99 U.S. dollars. The upgrade price is in tiny print below the full price. The upgrade and price has been the same for many years. Adobe web page link: www.adobe.com/products/elements-family.html?promoid=V2XYKZ3B&mv=other

Actually depends on the light source, but since the original is lit cool from a partially overcast sky the colors need to be warmed up, even if only to make it look like it was original and not a cutout from a different picture. Remember the idea here is to make it look right, not make it perfectly accurate, for that you shouldn't even be doing this type of work.

You take WAY TOO much time on the refine edge part of your videos. I'm trying to get the steps clear in my head and follow along and the constant re-painting, retracing with the select brush on the layers drives me crazy. Other viewers get the idea about touching up around hairs, you drive it into the ground. Its tough to develop confidence in what I'm trying to learn watching you do that
@HTGGeorge
4 жыл бұрын
The whole reason for this video is that refine edge process around hair. Nothing else matters. That is what the video is about. I have loads of other videos showing how to remove backgrounds that don't spend so much time on the process, here is a playlist on removing backgrounds kzitem.info/door/PLfp-NJt_DpgEo3RRzfzSLZZCyNZhdLfle
