In the past people were anxious. They could be killed at any time, accident or not. If the crops didn’t come, you starved. We live in the best time. We actually have time to think about our feelings because we aren’t constantly fighting for our lives. It’s sad life isn’t easy and fun

Anxiety has always existed but they had more means of processing as in they had to physically do everything, so it wasn’t in their heads all the time parading around. Now we work sitting down; we go snd over analyze. And this western society has more mental health issues diagnosed than the third world countries

That last caller, I've been on both sides sorta. My brother had bought the ring to propose and she broke up with him. (They were both serious about marriage but she was having issues feeling like it was right.) My family shunned her, and she's no longer friends with my other sisters. I thought it was silly and immature to cut her off. Deciding on a husband is very serious and hard. The other side: My sister's husband was revealed to have been abusive and unsafe for her. As a result, none of us siblings want to be around him. Time has begun healing some of those wounds, but only with proof of change. I understand that life is messy and people make choices. So long as I can believe that they have pure desires and not evil intent, I try to be at peace. But I've also had to completely cut off a sibling for my mental health. They have many issues and it was killing me. (Id recommend talking to them and getting a reading on things, before deciding how it went down.)

If she is the ex gf it is kind of natural that the relationship will fade out (unless she had a really close bond with an individual as opposed to almost being part of the family). I was struck by the word "shunned" though. If your sisters had a close friendship it would be a bit awkward in the beginning, but they would not need to meet when your (maybe still hurting) brother is around.

The sister's husband _has been_ abusive ? Just in case he did turn this around and that they are also still married (if he stepped up) - why cut him off ? If he still abuses her (even to a lesser degree) it would be natural not to be around him.

Caller #3: stop being self-righteous. Family goes above someone else unless there has been an actual crime committed. First, you don’t understand if there was something going on. Second, unless you can confidently claim you will never cheat you are acting hypocritical. Third, you don’t know if he cheated and you are being used to spite your sister. This isn’t a friend, this is a family member. And I would do the same to my brother, if he cheated. I’d go not cool but guess what I’d still be his sister and I’d still be there. Honestly, this feels like the caller fears being cheated on and is conflating his sister with a girlfriend/wife. I’d only be overtly pissed if it was a prolific serial cheater scenario.

The 3 caller didn't make sense and John didn't do a good job. Your sister marriage isn't your business! She had an affair you lose respect....I mean I get it but for you to choose sides is ridiculous. That's your sister. You can still have a good relationship with the brother-in-law and your sister. Grow tf up! Your parents did regardless what you might think.

@sometimesising1016 it just seems weird to me. I have a brother-in-law I've known since I was 2-3 yrs old. I wouldn't want a divorce or wish it, but that's their marriage. Regardless who did wrong. I think John should've asked why he feels so strongly about this. And why did he went on and on about the sister just wanting to text/email. Seems to me the brother is making this into an issue not the sister.

The roots of these issues? We are modern day slaves, you work your whole life and maybe just maybe you might be able to afford to retire - but only if you’re one of the lucky ones. Your relationships? Well, those are dependant on the fact you can perform and are the best option at that given time - if a richer, better looking option arises - it doesn’t matter how much effort you put in.

That's the dark Gothic outlook on life. Family is supposed to be somewhere you are always welcome but tell you the ugly truth. It's up to you to figure the best financial path to peace. But really that peace is in Jesus, though you might seek it in other religions too.
@Dansyoung

@@sackettfamily4685 Maybe it’s dark, but you know what? It’s the truth, and it mirrors my experiences. Here’s the true reality. No one is coming to save you, you have to work for what you want in this world. Yes you can have faith but that’s not going to lead you to success. My family has always been number one, but I learned the hard way that MANY females are opportunistic and superficial. They will stick around for the good times but will be gone like the wind during the bad.

@@sackettfamily4685to be frank that’s not even Christianity. Jesus was in many ways the hippy that didn’t want people to idealize money. We in current day are idealizing money. And it’s not just idealizing. You used to be able to work a few times to live. In current society you have to work 60 hours and maybe you have a job. Maybe. Because us product managers and system analysts can come in and automate your process. Which means you become useless to work environment. This is where Europe has it right vs us. They work to live. Not live to work. And basically, are much more communal than us. We view neighbors as potential enemies. Not Christian to be frank.

I think an unfortunate thing to note is if you're more on the poor side, your work tends to consume your life so you can make ends meet; which, in turn, takes you away from family and a proper home life.

The truth is even if you are God fearing you can still suffer mental illness. Talk to someone who has post traumatic stress disorder, , dissociative identity disorder, schizophrenia. These can't be heald just by God alone we have to do everything that God has given us on this earth to help us. Faith first most definitely but then you have to work with what God gave us here on earth.

Similar to the little story where a man in distress asks for God's help, and then denies anything that isn't God himself. God created the tools we can use to help each other.
