Omg this is so timely! I was accused of copying a guy last week! He accused me of stealing his ideas and thumbnails, even though most of our thumbnails look nothing alike (the one he cherry picked to show similarities wasn't even about the same subject)... And the hilarious part is were in the same niche! So of course we're going to talk about the same things (tech and cyber security)! 😅 I've been refreshing content I made 8 years ago! My friends suspect he accused me to create unhealthy engagement and growth, so I didn't tag him (but I still posted my receipts 😂). It's sad that he did it, and tried to discredit one of the only women in our niche, but I was able to prove him wrong and not waste anymore time on it. My advice: listen to your audience and watch trends if you're in a trending niche. Your viewers will tell you what they want to see, and you can start a whole note doc of ideas to pull from. And if you have 1000 videos online like I do, pull from your older content and update it whenever that content is hitting the news again.

Thank you for covering this copycat issue!! Even a small channel like me also experiences it, and it's really annoying. I understand if many want to copy Mr.Beast as he is a massive a channel. But in my experience, it's the other way around. There's a channel with over 100k subs who's been around YT for 7 years, and this channel has been copying me since a year ago. She copies (and sometimes steals my thumbnails), she makes the same walkthrough videos of the game I play almost everyday, and she's also copy-pasting my video description word per word (even the typo I made in my own video description). Can't report that to YT since she makes her own videos, although the video description, ideas, and thumbnails are mine.

I personally believe mimicking and plagiarism is inevitable sooner or later. Much of it could just be accidental. If there are millions of content creators our ideas and inspiration come from somewhere. Even Mr. Beast had to be inspired by something he saw when he was growing and etc. Coming up with an original idea is not the simple anymore. Oh, by the way, I do like watching your stuff. Thanks.

I think there is another problem with the youtube community, which is people are unable to identify whether the content is a copycat or not. There are sometimes similar ideas for creating content, but people just call you copying instead. The line between copying and inspiration has become so vague that people don't even know what they are accusing. And, sadly, things had come up to this point. Although things are like that, hope you all content creators are doing well, and be able to generate original content~

Agreed, happens all the time. There are millions of KZitem creators, sometimes people have the same ideas. We are human. If you think you are so special that only you ever thought of something you're crazy. Now a direct copy of every single thing done in someone else video, word for word, same order, same things done that's different. But big youtubers steal ideas for small youtubers all the time and no one says a word.

I think a lot of the problem has to do with how the algorithm pushes you to make successful content based on what you have made before... literally anything with skibidi in the title blows up for almost anyone, regardless of quality. You put your heart and soul into original ideas just to see them bomb, whereas 5 minutes work can sometimes make millions of views - I've had it happen to me - and KZitem wants you to keep remaking that video in different ways and each of them will do well over a couple of weeks that you are riding the trend. It's a serious issue, my home feed looks tired and uninspiring as the same old content is pushed to me - it's more a KZitem issue than a personal creator's one. For all the talk of watch time and retention pushing quality, it often doesn't work - as the general public's retention of videos is no indicator of quality content. I think one solution could be a separate, curated by humans home feed, pushing original and quality content.

Totally agree on copycats. Same goes for fake videos. I'm in the animal rescue niche and there are a few channels that make me sick to my stomach! How can someone rescue a different puppy EVERYDAY? Then set them aside on the ground to wipe them down without worrying that they will try to escape? Most animals left to fend for themselves on the street will run from you the first chance they get before they realize they are in safe hands. And that's just a tip of the problems in these videos. Or the ones who use other people's rescue stories as their own. 🙄 Anyway...sorry for the rant...yes, copycats and fakers are very negative for the platform. His last three tips on how to re-evaluate and tweak content btw are great! Thanks for the info!

Many use the word content creator very loosely. When in fact many cloners or those with no original thoughts are in fact - KZitemrs. Now on the otherhand there are creators on KZitem who come to the platform for the purpose of sharing their talent and not to seeking fame or to become monetized to earn their sole source of income. It's unfortunate that KZitem has nothing set in place for the blatant plagiarism that takes place, especially when smaller channels are often the ones targeted.

@@164thscaleracing I copied the idea but improved it a lot. I added a lot of the things that people wanted. A monopoly means they'll never improve it or just take FOREVER so I decided to make my own version of their game. It actually took less time to make than it would take to legitimately beat their game since it's so slow and greedy ($2 per egg vs $0.10 in my game) while mine can be beaten in a month unless I add more content by then. I definitely put a lot of effort in it and didn't literally copy anything besides a few lines of code for some styles and the sound effects which they probably didn't even make themselves. I had to program many thousands of lines of code manually without any help from AI or anyone else and none of the images I use are copied from them.

I used to make clone MrBeast videos, albeit with pretty obvious that said videos were obviously direct clones with no money or effort applied to them. One video even was from Morgz, however at least one video got proper subtitles (a practice I've deployed in videos since) and another one got practice acts (which aren't done anymore because of my field of content). Those videos are long gone (I set them to private in late 2022, and have since deleted all of them). Also, if I were to expect content creators cloning me, I'd be rather chill about it, because I make tech videos (often times using ideas that are rather left open in the field, such as using old versions of Windows in the current year, one of these video ideas even got used (in a different way) by one of the biggest tech creators on the platform!).

I'd be sitting back thinking like "this person is not a genius they got it from me" and since they have big followings nobody would ever know that I'm the one who inspired them they would flat out steal everything that I do it's not right, if I put a list of musicians and youtubers who have copied me or stolen something from me in the past the world would be SHOCKED. I used to rebuild the common Minecraft skins and make them better (more detailed), then I realized more people started to do this. I found a few people copying my topics on my channel. At first, I got really mad. But then I thought it was not worth wasting my time on lazy so-called creators. But someday, I might just say something out loud to the copycats.

I will add Rob is right. I seen a few streamers/ content creators - Quite a few - that claim to have their content literally copy/pasted. This is hard to avoid and can be a problem for those who actually work hard and produce good content.

The biggest issue with this is that when you finally have a original video idea that goes viral, then one of the bigger channels in your niche will just take that idea and remake it anyways. It’ll kill your video and there goes your views. Speaking from experience.

The worst have to be the AI generated channels where the script is generated from Chat GPT, and follow the format of 'top 10 things etc'. The pronunciation is always wrong and sometimes the information is wrong too. But these channels get lots of views, whereas all my content is original, this frustrates me sometimes.
