If you notice, one of the political hacks (the 3rd singer) is Pat Harrington, who played Schneider on "One Day at a Time"

I was watching Fanny Willis explaining where she got the money to pay for her extravagant vacations, and I thought of this song. It's funny how cash just piles up.

@@claysnyder1257 Bock and Harnick said they were simply worshipping at the altar of Gilbert and Sullivan, and so they repeated the ends of the phrases, and didn't realize that "Up your honor bit by bit" had a double meaning until audiences started laughing at it.

Search for the film version of the musical "1776". Howard Da Silva reprises his Broadway role as Ben Franklin and he knocks it out of the park!

The narration has the background of the song exactly reversed. The song is a Republican ( the out's ) clubhouse gloating over the Seabury investigation of the corrupt Tammany machine.

Exactly so. That's precisely what makes it so funny. It's all sarcasm, weaponized.
