Ellen could have taken the easy road and alienated Howie for his unusual behaviour in many, cheap ways; but instead, she joins him on his walk. Instead of reaching an uncomfortable stalemate in an attempt to force the guest into the show's standard format, a compromised was smoothly arrived at and a humorous interview followed. Very classy and compassionate.

If you watch him at the very beginning, he looks at the chair - and you can see the sheer terror in his face. The anxiety is overwhelming. His quick mind, as he begins to pace from anxiety, comes up with a Howie-like comedic ruse. Tragedy and Comedy displayed all at once. OCD's are unbelievably irritating to be around in real life, but my heart breaks for the suffering man. I heard the reason he shaved his head was because he was so terrified of germs. OCD is no joke. And, by no means does anyone with it indulge themselves. They're aware of how it affects others - they're embarrassed and shamed by it, and it's a lifetime struggle; even with meds and therapy. Having lived outside this country for many years, I believe America is the only country leading in its understanding of mental illness. And even that's not much to be applauded. For the most part, those with mental illnesses are still being treated as outcasts.

We have set behaviors, routines, way doing things and real fears. I am so bless that God, bless me with a husband that understand, patience and does his best to help me through anxiety melt downs. What people don't understand is that when we try accommodate others, it's actually the hardest thing for us. Because we really try to cope, to try accept or anticipate change. But it a really really really hard struggle in our personal, professional and every aspect of our lives. It's heartbreaking the way people see us. Having OCD myself, I totally understand this although I wouldn't specifically do this action. The unique thing about OCD, demonstrated in this video, is that he can sound relatively sane when talking whilst at the same time acting in an absurd way. I find this, like I could explain how absurd it was that I was checking a door so many times whilst checking the door but that wouldn't stop me checking the door. Of course, many with OCD actually believe what they are worried about on a rational level, but many others, including myself, know that what they're doing is absurd but do it anyway. It's scary but if we can identify the absurdity of our actions to avoid a particular problem, we have made the first step towards worrying less about these problems.
@alexanderrobinson6748

+Mr 24 Totally agree with you, like I know 100% what im doing is odd or that nothing bad will happen if i dont follow through, but i do it anyway. Ive worried about things less lately ecause of bringing up the absurdity and forcing myself to stop but thoughts still come into my head now and then, the important thing i found was that the OCD was just trying to get the best/worst of me by forcing irrational fears and worries into my head that i knew werent true, and that if i kept telling myself that i was fine and that i know the thoughts werent true than id feel a bit better

Personally I think the step thing was a ruse. His OCD is mainly contaminant-based, and he might have felt unable to sit on the chair that day, as others had sat in it. What if there were germs, or bugs, etc in there? But saying you have to count 10,000 steps is a lot more socially acceptable ("funny personality quirk!") than saying you're too petrified to sit on a chair ("weird paranoid person"). I have OCD, and I understand where he's coming from. He's a comedian after all; he wants to make them laugh, not feel sad for him.

Actually OCD is a disorder where you have repetitive thoughts come into your head that won't go away, and they can be about anything but they are obsessive. And studies have proven that people with OCD are less likely to have a clean room than just a common neat freak. Very different things.

Yea that's what I meant. People think that if they like to organize things then they are OCD. OCD completely owns every minute of your life and you can't do anything about. Likely things to align into a straight line or color code items is just organizational preferences, not a disorder.

actually, it looks weird, how he's walking around like that, but we have all done things that seem weird to others but OK to us. I have a habit of just getting up and doing waist exercises because of my fear of getting fat! I'll break out in these at anytime at home.

I have both of those, and when I'm IN PUBLIC and NOT ON AN ANONYMOUS INTERNET FORUM, I talk to people with tact and aplomb. Howie is a diva and he is spoiled rotten. He does have hardcore OCD but that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with being polite and not insulting your host. If I need to timestamp that episode for you to find the parts where he's an asshole, you obviously haven't watched it yourself or you'd have come to the same conclusion. Watch it and come back to me, if you still think howie was being totally polite towards Cesar, that'll let me know that you're an idiot and I have nothing more to say to you.
