Good job. I wonder why you didn't remove the watch head first before working on the deployant though? Wouldn't that have reduced the risk of damage significantly?

Hi Andy, well I suppose my rationale there was that if I couldn't get that stop-screw removed, I would have left the watch that way till I sent it off for service, and as a result didn't need to mess with the strap's spring bars. That said, I was quite confident that I wouldn't harm the watch head and it really did turn out brilliantly (even though I say so myself!).

Great video Mike wow this time piece is amazing . I was wondering what's the state of your collection Mike. I don't remember seeing a recent state of the collection what a grail watch this timepiece is. Have yet to add a PP to my collection. I was very close on picking up a Aquanaut on bracelet with a xtra rubber strap with a spare deployment clasp last year. But just couldn't come up with enough funds to make it happen. They had offered loans 0% interest at the Tourneau Patek Philippe AD here is Costa Mesa CA . But not good enough in there eye to finance 10 k of the watch only 4 k . Then I spent the money on the new ceramic black on black Daytona in cash only . Back to saving money for me lol

Hey Peter - nice to hear from you again. I didn't post a SOTC video for 2017 as nothing has changed; I have the same pieces shown in the 2016 SOTC clip. The aquanaut is a nice piece, but you did a couple wise things. 1. You didn't tie yourself down with a loan (even though it's 0%!) and 2. the Daytona can be sold _any day of the week_ for cash. Selling Pateks, at least in my part of the world, is a tough proposition - especially at this price range I suppose. As for the 5146 - agreed, it is a grail watch in many ways, and to me it certainly was a grail piece when I bought it to commemorate my 30th.

Apologies all for the audio - I tried using the lav mic directly on the DSLR rather than recording through the new Focusrite Scarlett audio interface - in future, I will use that instead for a far cleaner audio signal.

This was the only video in the common strap change for a Patek. I have the same watch , annual calendar , and need to do the same change. Gonna get a 120 size jewelry screw driver

When you use a screw driver on the screws a professional would use a piece of plastic cling film between the screw and the screw driver to avoid scratches on the screw. People who have Patek watches should really seek professionals, there is always something new to learn from them.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for a polite response, which is rare on KZitem. I completely agree, for any Patek owner, if you have easy access to your boutique/AD, let them adjust and attend to your watch for you. When I last sat with a Patek technician I did not notice him using a cling film; he was just careful and certain with his use of the correct screw-driver. In my personal collection, I only own original Bergeon tools and was careful when working on this deployant strap. In any case, I sold this watch a while ago and replaced it with a 5146R in 2019 -- (I switched from yellow to rose gold). Thanks again for your feedback.

great video, I don't understand why not all watchmakers use springbars like this with the quick release system. I have another question for you though, you using your iPhone to hit the springbar in reminded me you might know more what I should do. My iPhone got stolen last week and I can't find it on the find my iPhone app. I know you are kind of a tech oriented guy, what would you suggest i do?
@bsodmike

Hey Thomas - actually, in the video, I only used the iPhone bumper to hit the solid-bar which has the groove for the set-screw. Never attempt whacking 'spring-bars' as they are delicate; just want to clear this for all! Ouch that is nasty. Unfortunately, it sounds like you haven't setup 'Find my iPhone' so you'd need to resort to reporting the IMEI number of your handset to the local authorities. You should also contact your mobile carrier and tell them your phone's stolen so they can track the IMEI. Usually the mobile carrier + police work together to track the phones movement, as tracking via cell-tower triangulation is usually the only way, especially if the culprits are able to turn off 3G/4G data. Hope you managed to get it back mate!
@thomask1711

so the carrier could track it to via IMEI to? The carrier suggested to make the phone completely useless by some kind of method they have... but there is no way in finding it again after I assume? Culprits will just ditch it no?
@bsodmike

Hmm not sure about that approach, but you're right, they'd probably ditch it.

ugh, was saving for my first rolex, guess that is going to take a back take, was looking at a 36mm explorer, seems decent bang for buck

If you've already saved up for the Rolex, consider getting a disposable 'el-chepo' phone for the time being. It's easier to make the large purchase first and then save for the smaller (iPhone) purchase later. Depends how much you _really_ need a smartphone though. Good luck mate!

You've obviously never worn a Patek (with deployant). This Christmas (2019) I picked up a 5170G Chronograph, strap is fitted the same.

Mike S My 5980R has the short one on 12. May be different models have it differently. But it doesn’t make sense to me. Why would I want to see the end of the strap?

@@bhsteve4560 kzitem.info/news/bejne/mqh4s2ursHdjdaw kzitem.info/news/bejne/r52Jv45_jqSDnqw Steve if we watch these video with Hodinkee and John Goldberger and the other experts, I doubt they all can be wrong and I agree with you. But as you know it's subjective to how you want to wear your watch. ;) One thing for sure money cannot buy taste ;)

When I went to the official PP service center, they put the short one at 6 o'clock and insisted that it was the correct way for patek dress watches. That was for my PP Worldtime 5110g
