I think IKO is the only shingle that doesn't have a 5 & 5/8" exposure. Should let the folks know to snap a line for their starter course, then pull measurements.

if your running 3 tab ,, hook the eve ,pull up 16 inches on both ends and pop a line ...Run your starter with the facia and follow suit until you get to your 16 inch popped line,,and put the top of shingle on popped line .. ,,we always went 25 inch increments up the roof ,,,

I like all the just get it done roofer comments on here! I see the results of these guys who never measure anything ! It shows in your work ,it shows! I ,when working alone or with a guy who is like my left hand do not need to chalk up a bunch of lines but still do some .Because no matter how good you think you are ,the string don't lie! I have never seen as much half ass shoemaker roof jobs as I have in recent years ! Shingles nailed so high up above tar line that the shingles start to heave up in the heat ! Couple years,they're cracked ! Half ass flashing ,A real pet peave ! I see your chimney flashing ,I can tell instantly if a real roofer did it or some wanna be just out to get paid! I ve had to fix so many half ass roofs that were supposedly just done recently ,it gives good roofers a bad name ! At any rate ,A shout out to the hardest working tradesman out there ,roofers! There is never an easy day on a roof ,or a lazy man on a roof ! Nothing but hard work ,all day every day ,they earn their pay .No work from home bullshit jobs !

Or just put your starter row on straight and you'll be good to go and if you can't put em on straight just by using your fingers you are fired

Nice vid man Question indont have to measure 19 since 22.5 will be from top of first shingle to top of 5th?
@BueBue701
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you could do that. You're talking about instances using gutter apron, where your first course needs a half inch overhang, correct? After snapping your first line, you could pull from that and start your measurements for lines. (Always make sure to measure up your shingles beforehand using the method in this video. There is no standard size shingle from brand to brand. 22.5 will not always work.)

Personally I just make my drip and starter straight than there's nothing to worry about. If you feel your going wonky than you can adjust 4 feet up from eave at the first plywood joint

Not marking control lines screams amateur, and hack ass roofer. 🤷♂️ control lines stop "real roofers" from dipping and diving, so the roof doesn't look like a surfer a dream. Every time I hear someone say "I don't need lines" I have to go back and tear out valleys, 3 sq sections. And hear "oh, we can just black jack the nail line, I have showing." Gtfoh.

@@BueBue701 dude we leave a job and its perfect we use the lines that are on the fkn paper hahah just put your paper on straight and you'll have no problems they are your guide , I'm no amateur if you were working where I am you'd be fired or trained differently im not saying your a bad roofer but that shit is unnecessary for sure , put it this way when I see you do that it tells me that you've been trained by someone who has been trained by another who was not a real roofer lol I've been trained by Raymond Lavoie himself the Frenchman my family had 3 separate roofing companies zero leaks and we use hammers not guns. If you think that's amateur then you are the true rookie here dude

I've been doing it for close to a decade and my boss has 20+ years of experience. I'm going to go with our experience and realize riding waves on a roof looks like trash. Control lines do more good than anyone that thinks they're "good".

@@elijahhammel7688 be using extra caution to make things straighter is never a problem. Only slows things a bit but definitely if your installer needs them by all means use them. Mine don’t and they are straight. Cheers bud. Happy roofing.
