Just came across your channel a bit ago and I’m so glad I did! I’m somewhat new to Hoyas, and already lost two plants to rot. I decided to use your recipe of coco chips and pumice and leca and so far so good. Thank you.

I’d love to learn more about the Planter potty… I’ve been using lechuza pon for most of my Hoyas. But some are in a mix I make, a little fox farm soil, the Chonk mix, perlite, charcoal and coco chips.

Thanks for this. Coco husk is so popular for Hoya; I really needed the advice on what to look for when I eventually repot I have a DIY pon recipe that I like for my semi hydro plants: perlite, lava rock, zeolite (2:2:1), with a dash of charcoal and Osmocote

Thanks for a great video! I use coir, coarse bark, perlite, charcoal and I’ve just started adding some zeolite(sold in Australia sometimes as natural clay kitty litter🤭). I’m loving the extra added weight to my pots and how it holds onto nutrients.

Interesting mix! Thanks for sharing 💚 The weight is definitely a factor in my choice of pumice over perlite!

Hi there I just started getting into this hoya wayetteii cutting that finally put out some new growth! My comment applies to what the coco chips do to the plants, I have noticed that in my monstera and pothos that the poles contain alot of coco chips and I've noticed that the lower leaves have started yellowing and dropping I googled it and it's due to calcium deficiency, I read the coco chips are absorbing too much minerals, idk your thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated because I really like coco chips

I haven’t tried coconut husk yet - can you break off chunks from the block and use it in small batches? I’d love to experiment with adding it to my mix, as I make my own mix as well, but I use a cactus soil as my base. The next time I need to order pumice, I’ll try to remember to come back here and use your link. I used to water most of my plants at the sink, but when I use Liquid Dirt and the vitamin mix, who’s name I’m blanking on, I water over a plastic tub so I can catch the water and reuse it. But lately, I’ve been super lazy and only take my orchids to the sink, and water everyone else with a watering can! Once the water comes out onto the dish underneath the pots, I know I’ve watered sufficiently. Sometimes I get overflow and water goes everywhere, but paper towels help with that! Thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵

I imagine it would be challenging to try to break off pieces because of how compressed it is. The brick is not large but it yields around 14 gallons when hydrated 🤯 It basically is like one fused piece until water is introduced. I’m sure you can find coco chips in smaller quantities or not compressed if you’d prefer 😉 Thank you, Sharon, for your consistent support and comments! I so appreciate you 🫶🪴

I'm reaching out to ask in relation to soil mix and considering reporting my first hoya in my collection. I have a hoya lacunosa. I already hand mix the soil for my others using coir but never used Leca or pumice...I mix vermiculite and perlite with worm casting.... would my general also work?

That should work just fine! Thanks for watching 🪴

Thank you. I am a new hoya owner and I'm confused on soil or leca. I purchase a small Mathilde. On a budget so what would you recommend.
