How do you know your float worked without performing a continuity check from the ground to chassis? You had a multimeter right there.
@njfulwider5
4 жыл бұрын
This is not a Hack I created, but a hack well know throughout the DIY community. I didn't come up with it myself. But a continuity test was done, just not videotaped. I have even already finished Part 2, Just need to edit once I get a chance. This is just something you need to do if you plan to use 2 in series, and you plan on the case touching each other stacked. Most PSU like this has to be floated, even good old PC Power supplies where the DIYer uses 2 in series. The only part causing the PSU to connect to the case is the 2 front screws. Some even go a step further and do all 4 screws. I have made many double stacks Power supplies for friends and family, this is just one that posted a couple year ago.

Ah nylon screws that is what I didnt use, I just took some flat plastic and put it on each side of the board, luckily the holes are not plated through so it cant touch, the nylons crews are a better idea so it cannot possibly short. @njfulwider5
5 жыл бұрын
Typically amps like this runoff Car Battery Voltages (12.6 and above when the car is off and 13.3-14.5V when running). Car Batteries also give you the voltages that you need. I personally would visit a local goodwill or even a yard sale. Look for a Car Battery charger that delivers up to 50 amps. I have seen videos of other KZitemrs, DIYing the charger to fit there needs. Here is one of my Favorite videos-kzitem.info/news/bejne/uIVpmGmZmIGGmo4 You could also use a transformer or Powersupply from an old UPS. But I haven't really to much info on those. But I have heard of others using them to create Car Chargers with amperage of 50. Those have to keep Lead acid batteries charged, for the power loss back up. I have found these also at the local Goodwill. The last idea, use a Server PSU like this and a boost converter. I have one of those 1800watt Boost converters I could probably connect to this server supply in the video to get the amperage and voltage needed. But I may be limited by the converters amp rating. If that is the case, you could put 2 converters in parallel. Hope you get it figured out! Thanks for commenting!!!

If your having issues like that with current, I would use a mofset switch. Just make sure you find one capable of the amperage or use multiples in parallel. @@njfulwider5 i found out that the supplies which i want to use the hstns-pl14 have a integrated relais and softstarter which is quite amazing they charge the Caps using a resistor and jump the resistor after a second I can hear it click when I pull the plug, I was quite amazed when I figured this out because my older supplies which I used didn't have this and as I said always welded the switch to the on position. These dont do that Edit: you also mentioned the relais on some units and it's basically what mine have so yeah didn't read that part of you're answered before writing the top part 😅

Great video. Quick question: I gave an HP509008-001 server power supply and don't know which 2 pins to solder the resistor on to switch it on, how did you determine the 2 pads to "short"?

I found the pins to mod just by doing some research. The Type of server psu I used is widely used and modified for these purposes. I tried to see if I could find anything on the one you have and I couldn't find anything on it, unfortunately. But I will keep my eyes peeled and report back if I come across. Sorry, wish i could have been more helpful.
