This is why I specify 4”/100mm of thick padding completely surrounding the item when I leave a message for the seller on eBay, they really NEED that much, I also point out that the postal service will drop or even throw the package !

Thank you for scanning the manuals. I have one of these. It was a gift from my father back when I was in middle school but I was never able to find the manual.

Lovely unit and great restoration, especially on that cracked corner! You clearly ain't cutting corners, haha. I'm surprised that the HP engineers didn't use any connector for the power supply and went for hardwired connection, making servicing a bit harder and riskier. I'd surely love to tinker with this kit... what better way to learn the barebones basics of computing? Getting very intimate with bits and logic.

One thing about using epoxy: When fixing components on a board I switched to UV cured epoxy. This allows me to cure for a few seconds, just enough to fix the key in place so I can try it out. Then when everything works I just cure for another minute. If not, the epoxy can still be removed. For the broken case I'm not sure if just epoxy is gonna be sufficient long-term. Using a fiberglass mat with epoxy makes the result basically indestructible - although at the cost of being very visible on the inside.

That must have been a rough trip from the ebay seller. I've been lucky the last few vintage items I've ordered have arrived intact, even including a 1982 vintage Tektronix CRT waveform monitor. However, I've got a couple more packages waiting for me in the mail room, one of which is a 1980s camcorder complete with hard shell carry case that I'm hoping survived intact. Fingers crossed! Rather than gluing down the keys, I'd be tempted to try some very tiny screws through the heat stake holes. Obviously it would depend on whether there's enough plastic on the keys to screw into, and you'd need to very carefully drill a pilot hole exactly where the heat stake used to be, but it would allow the keys to be more easily removed later for servicing, and wouldn't be reliant on the glue staying glued.

Arrgh! I hope you got some money back. I had a beautiful Sharp MZ-731 busted up because the seller didn't package it correctly. And recently I bought a IBP Model 56 which the shipper used an old box that didn't hold up with crumpled paper for padding. By the time it had got to me, it was busted up into 50+ pieces (the case was exceptionally brittle), but more to the point, the once working PC had its heat sink busted off, and all that it would do is make a clicking noise out of the hard drive. Nice job on the repair, and it's always fun to see a trainer show up in a video. :) Call me shallow, but I've limited myself to trainers that have CPUs that I might actually run into in the wild (Lab-Volt 6502s, MPF Z80 trainers in both the MPF VHS tape box format as well as the MT-80Z in the suitcase format). I've pretty much given up on OpenSCAD, they use someone else's engine which occasionally creates a CGAL error that isn't going to go away anytime soon. They don't seem to understand the mechanics and I don't think CGAL is maintained any longer. This forces me to fix trivial errors in MeshMixer first. Example: ERROR: CGAL error in CGAL_Nef_polyhedron3(): CGAL ERROR: assertion violation! Expr: e_below != SHalfedge_handle() File: /usr/include/CGAL/Nef_3/SNC_FM_decorator.h Line: 418 So trivial errors that any slicer would ignore gets flagged and OpenSCAD won't render your object. Meh.

Brings back collage memories of the Motorola 6808 training lab. I enjoyed programming in assembler language. I never see any for sale and the collage I went to is probably still using them because of there ability with financial responsibility.

There were quite a few of these things around from various vendors... Personally, I love the MPF-I (I had a video some time ago) - I guess almost everybody is most fond of their first model 😸 - but I can recommend saved searches on ebay!
