So the blue cpu tray is not required? My server came with one cpu installed and it has the blue plastic surround. Seems to make reinstall more difficult and already tweaked some cpu pins that required “micro-surgery” to correct.

Can confirm it is not required although makes confirming the orientation a bit easier. Like in the video if you can lower the cpu into the socket straight down as to avoid touching the pins with a corner is best. In my case first boot resulted in a memory error for dimm 1 on my 2nd cpu. Took the cpu back out cleaned the pads on cpu with 90%iso and then light strokes with toothbrush on pins on board to clean any old thermal paste flakes. Reseated cpu and memory issue dissappeared. Had also tried reseating ram at first but didnt resolve my issue. Cpu wasnt alligned or debris was cauaing faulty contact. Main thing look for the gold triangle on the corner of the cpu package, and the corner on the cpu socket on the motherboard that has a notch cut out. Align those and the orientatio is set. Then just make sure the cpu is centered.

What is your thoughts about using the high performance heatsink? Planning to upgrade from a 2620 v4 to a 2697A v4.

I think that using High Performance heat sinks and fans for the higher end CPUs is a smart decision.
