Nice! I think we have the same setup. I run a 4.1 LRP with a JP-2 and Hobao Carb. My XL sounds just like yours. Good video man. I did the FLM upgrade with Octane drive and idle gears. It holds the power with no problems. Keep up the good work !!

Dam sorry that happened...I put the hpi .25 in my Savage XL..just enjoying it no gear shreds.. I put a kyosho .21 in my kfx Savage..all good.. through my years of experience, these savages just can't handle major power. 💪🏾. I've shredded many gears and diffs with novas, lrps.too much. I even bought Robinson racing metal gears for the transmission and spur.. ended up shredding those also..

Looks like you were having a good time out there. Always finding the limits... I'm pondering picking up the new savage xl once it is released and swapping the engine for a picco .26 or .27 that have been looking for a home. I haven't ever run them so not sure what to expect. Do you think either one would be a good match for the xl platform? Keep up the good work ⚡
@TastyBRC
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have never been disappointed with a picco and the .27 in particular is a monster! I wish Picco still made this engine. Dont know much about the .26 i thought it was only made for traxxas with the traxxas exhaust . The f5.9 is a good engine and i would love to buy one but it's far from a picco IMO
@jbrc1322
Жыл бұрын
@@TastyBRC yes, I believe the max .26 was the version picco made for the traxxas trucks. Those were a 'mid block' if i'm not mistaken. I've got the 'outlaw' versions. I think the .26 outlaw was the predecessor to the .27

Damn, 2,5 tanks😔and you did nothing crazy. Just a normal run. This really sucks. The balance between running and wrenching is quite skewed with this quality. Or upgrade everything or sell that shit. There's not much fun about it like this if you can't run it without breaking it. This is actually just outrageous for that price... HPI scammers😡 anyway, great vid buddy 👍Love the way you do the editing👌👍👍👊

I was thinking about selling these trucks but resale value is so low that i changed my mind.. a smaller engine ill be OK. 90% of the time i spend with a savage is for wrenching.. Very frustrating. Thanks for the comment Kings 👍

You need the hpi 2 speed maintenance set and to use the black 2 speed spring instead of the softer stock silver spring. Also the 2 speed is set way to early and that’s why the transmission fails. That’s one of the most popular upgrade engines for that truck for a reason but you have to have everything set right when playing with that much torque. The problem with the 2 speed is the the clutch binds up from the spring not returning the the finger clutch fast enough then it ends up tearing the inside of the transfer gear in the gear box, or just ruining the 2 speed clutch. Also the screw pins on the clutch hub need red thread lock as well as the engine mount and engine brace screws. Last recommendation is gold 1.1 clutch springs after the engine is broken in. After 3 tanks you should not be hitting the 2 speed. What I’m saying is the transmission needs adjustment just to put the engine in the car. The stock 2 speed setting is way too early for that engines power. But it’s up to the mechanic to make it right.

Thanks for the advice. This savage has now the 3 speed but i ordered the maintenance kit that you mentioned for my stock 4.6 savage. Also ill set the gearbox so it shifts later 👍

Hey, I was just curious about the fast lane machine gear upgrade for the transmission so I checked their site and didn’t see any parts listed for the savage. Can you post a link? Thanks
What did you broke in the transmission? If I heard right you have two speed installed? The gear change happens pretty low rpm. You could change to the three speed. It has more metal gears so that only the first gear is plastic. Or if you want to play with the two speed I would suggest to change the gear change point way higher. Now it changes at about max torque rpm (suspecting from the sound level) and that puts quite a much stress to the second gear (maximum possible) and it might give you issues with plastic second gear. I have had two speed and three speed transmissions and did newer blow out anything. I did not have anything bigger than mild .27 on it when it was on two speed but with three speed I had the picco P3 .28 which you seems to have in your collection also. Great engine and with three speed and bulletproof diffs it was a joy to run.
@TastyBRC
Жыл бұрын
I broke the second speed gear and now i installed the 3 speed gearbox! Havent tried yet.. its raining every single day here.. you may be right, setting the shifting point at so low rpm may not help because of the torque but im pretty sure that there is something wrong with the gearbox internals. The picco 28 is a great engine, probably the engine i had the most fun with, so sad they dont make it anymore.. the rebel xl .24 is awsome, much higher quality, based on a race engine but far from the 28 in power..

It rare something has so much power it strips gears it possible but usually is from not being shimmied right or worn out some were allowing it miss a line or something like a shaft bent some wear even a bearing lock up or running it in one speed without shifting for a long time will also smoke the gears high rpm definitely will do it. Jenny's rc get a brand new gear box 35$ sign up to get email when available they will ship out hope that helps 👌👍✌️💯🏎️🏎️

I totally agree, I first thought the engine was too powerful, but the gearbox broke several times with different engines, so i replaced the bearings, the gear box case, checked the shims but didnt replaced the shafts, this is most likely the source of the problem.
