Hi Paul. I understood that the 4 W1 utes were taken off the overall sedan build, so 271 Aussie W1 sedans. Then you have the press car on top of that which was meant to be crushed but ended up being sold. But I didn't know GM made an extra batch for Australia, I thought the story goes that HSV scrounged around to find 300 LS9's from warehouses etc. But if you look online, LS9 crate engines are for sale so GM must still be making them, all confusing to me.

Paul, Love your work and I loved this review of a great ute. A magnificent and historically significant car, no doubt at all. Being such a small run and specialised vehicle I don't know if it deserves "pinnacle of Australian engineering". It was used for a very short time, came from 'Murica (NOT Oz) and sold to an elite selected few. Hardly qualifies it as an Aussie's aspirational car. For this and a swipe at the title of "pinnacle" I think the more deserving Aussie is the Barra Turbo Six. The final incarnation in 370Kws showed what a mass produced FULLY Australian chunk of engineering could really be - for Joe average! Thanks for the great work Paul - keep it up! (P.S: Fancy lumbering a ute with dangerous rain tyres as standard. A set of Michelin PS4s or Pirelli PZeros would have been much more appropriate and appreciated and given damn near as much fun in the dry and now slid of the road when it rained!)

Question is, if you won this who would you trust to service it with? I’d feel sick giving a $1mil car to just any old holden dealer to service.

Your average dealer mechanic (technician 🤪) would treat this like a high-km 6 cyl Commodore, no special care. God I hate mechanics

If you pay a million dollars for a Holden ute you deserve whatever you get.

The yellow GTS-R W1 Maloo should sell for more than this because - correct me I'm wrong - no GTS-R W1 sedan was made in yellow?

We used to have the Chevrolet Lumina in South Africa, it was basically our version of the Commodore. Unfortunately they were discontinued in 2013. I always wanted the sedan version, but buying a second hand V8 in SA is not a smart thing to do.
