Before watching video, just gotta say that specs, practicality, usability and all aside, the U11 looks gorgeous. Its not revolutionary, I mean normal bezels, normal shape, etc etc. But it refines the rather simple design so well that it actually looks rather stunning. Elegant without being overtly complicated, I like it ^^

Abhishek Mishra I agree, except they might not bring back the headphone jack. They removed it to add better speakers and greater water resistance as well as a greater camera. That 3.5 mm jack might not seem big, but so many things can be implemented using that same space. The earphones that come with the U11 are some of the best out right now and are definitely the best that come with any phone. Since it connects to USB type C, it can sound even better.

Abhishek Mishra people need to stop saying shit. buy a phone with no headphone jack then talk. my iphone 7+ delivers much better sound with the same headphones than my axon 7 (even axon's loudspeaker is way louder and crispier). not every 3,5 mm jack is born to deliver great sound, most of them suck.

I am not here to impress, but to state some of the opinion of myself toward U11. I would say the phone is very impressive as all rounder. The Edge sense is very good idea by introducing extra possible interaction with the phone, not just finger touch and button. Atleast the phone can be used under certain situation, and the sensitivity can be adjust according to personal preference, furthermore different function can be assign to the edge senses. Some people say why not insert a button for that, it is funny they suggested the design to go backward, from phone with button we go into touch screen and now implication of sensor to the phone to maintain the button-less design, so for real asking for more button ? And the Always-on Mic features very brilliant as well, in term of noise cancellation and also the acoustic focus on the 3D recording, delivering a video recording experience. But it is pretty annoyed to see a lot of complaint toward removal of headphone jack. I am curious to those who complaint about it, how much time they actually spend for the headphone per day ? Some say they play music while driving and connect it via auxiliary, some say they wanted to charge the phone while listening to the music, some say they wanted to connect to speaker, etc but how much battery can be consume when you playing the music background ? let it be 3-4 hours, I would say any phone can do that without a single charge in between, or you guys playing the music, and scrolling the phone while you drive ? or you listening to music scrolling the phone while you working? and no companies out there have suggested the phone should be charging while you using it, that is why so many phone exploded. Also the phone come with fast charging, it is more than enough if you wanted to charge your phone 10-20 mins in between. Also would like to mention the Adapter(Dongle) come in box, its free for you if you lost it, it don't cost you a million to buy 1. Not to mention they didn't just remove it with no alternative, in fact they replace it with a better feature the USonic, A BETTER AUDIO EXPERIENCE TO THOSE WHO LIKE TO USE HEADPHONE SO MUCH. It is similar when all big companies they ditched the removable battery from their flagship, people whining the company is killing it. But eventually everyone move on. About the glass design, unlike other company just put the glass and paint it they call design, look at the curve, the pigment of the phone, rich with color and durable it don't wear off easily how could it look cheap ? What I would like to say is why didn't you guys look at the bright side of what HTC have introduced, and try to figure out why they go for this direction in a positive manner ? In the past they introduced metal body, unibody, bombsound, dual camera, ultra pixel, reduce bootware, and up till now HTC sense is still one of the best official launcher in the market, not to say a lot of company have follow their design and path. Is it because "HTC" you guys expect so much ? S8 3000mah battery capacity no one say anything, but U11 3000 mah battery capacity they say it is too low for a flagship, M9 dual camera no one give damn, Iphone 7 dual camera, Iphone is the one being innovative. ROFL, this people is so confusing. Of cause they can put everything into their flagship, but what price are you gonna pay ? they will give you the dual camera, infinity screen, quadro speaker, bullet proof glass military grade steel but of cause it will be label with HTC. If not, why demand every other thing you wanted from other company to appear on HTC flagship ? have you see any innovative features that appear in HTC, appeared in other flagship before hand ? The curve screen from samsung, the side bar they introduced. No one even bother that bullshit. But most of the thing HTC introduced, mostly being copied. The funniest thing is, the phone launching only few days and ppl started to complaint as if they have used the phone, experienced it and it is that lousy as they say Oh My Gosh. Peace guy, stay happy.

Maybe I'm just weird but I prefer the regular old rectangular 16:9 look of the U11 to the S8/G6 and it's a tradeoff cuz it allows the fingerprint sensor to be on the front with the capacitive buttons meaning none of the screen is taken up by onscreen buttons and you don't have the awkward ass placement of the fingerprint sensor on the S8. I think HTC have innovated and iterated where it makes sense, it's a great design.

Raffael Ender so that you can actually hold the phone properly and not pressing the home button accidentally. unlike Samsung where they are able to put it in the middle because it is a button to be pressed, HTC's option for a capacitive key actually requires that space to allow you to use the screen without accidentally touching on the home button.

HarryPottard why?! In their entire life span as a company, HTC has only had one flop, the U Ultra (and maybe the M9, depending on how you look at it). The U Ultra was seen as a flop because it was so big, and was missing so many features. When you put the U11 next to the U Ultra, you'll see how much smaller it is, and how many features it has compared to the U Ultra. The U11 has some of the best speaker quality in any phone period, and the earphones that come with it are some of the best on the market and certainly the best that come with any smartphone. This phone has the best camera quality on any phone right now. This design is gorgeous (not as much as the GS8, but it still looks gorgeous), with the beautiful Liquid Glass and small bezels, it's an old design that still works. There's really no reason to complain and I feel like you are just doing this for attention

HTC is getting so much hate its crazy, S8 with a bigger screen has the same battery and no one says a word, when HTC does it (literally better battery life than S8) everyone starts to complain. People are defaulting to hate anything HTC does these days, this phone is great and its a good thing they tried to innovate and bring fresh ideas to the table and yet people will still find a way to bash them with overused jokes and irrational critiques.

The S8 actually has a more efficient AMOLED display and a DDI driver which compresses images to reduce power consumption without quality loss. Even last year's S7 had much better battery life than HTC 10. I expect the same thing this year.
@justinbeast2771
7 жыл бұрын
Omar Abdel Aziz I don't think you can say the HTC has better battery life than the S8 just yet. The S8 outperforms almost every phone currently in battery life including many with a bigger battery and even outperforms one phone that has the same power efficient processor and a bigger battery. Samsung did a whole lotta work with battery optimizations don't try and deny that.
@KHGlass
7 жыл бұрын
I believe that these critiques do come from a reasonable place, if they are complaints about HTC taking away the features that attracted its original customer base, and following in other companies' footsteps even when for them, there's no ample reason to do so. For example, HTC had always stood for metallic, study builds for me, but now they're caving in to the all-glass design that caters more to asthetics than function. Remind me, for being a glass back phone, does it have wireless charging? They took away the stereo front facing speakers and the headphone jack. While the former can be an argument for cost-efficiency, which falls flat since their prize tags last year were pretty damn high, and latter seems more like following Apple's example. I would agree it made water-resistantcy easier, but many don't consider it an outdated function yet. And honestly, to me the design just looks... uninspiring. I don't fancy Samsung that much because of their UI, but even aside from Samsung, I can list plenty of companies who make phones that have more reasonable screen-to-bezel ratios.
@Jhihmoac
7 жыл бұрын
KHGlass - Precisely! HTC used to cater to a certain crowd of power users that needed a handset for long-term functionality and durability, not useless "flauntability" with a bunch of attractive features... Everything changed with the Ultra, and to a certain extent, the U11... I'm glad I got the HTC 10 at the right time... It's the last of the M-Series "Tanks"... Maybe they'll bring some of that back in the future... Let them make all the Google Pixels for the masses from now until Doomsday! That way, they'll still have the capital to return to making their own brand for the unique breed of dedicated users HTC always has been known for!

That has to be the stupidest analogy i've seen so far. While Samsung was selling expensive plastic toys (more comparable to a kia) HTC was selling full metal unibody when everyone else was dreaming about them. So if anything the roles should be reversed.
@robglobal1

Valter Pereira were talking present not past and even those plastic devices were some of the most capable phones on the market. But again talking about now. I've been in this business since 2003 and HTC is been behind for a very long time now. Go buy your HTC device and be happy and stop hating on other brands just cause you lack knowledge.

I'm not as bummed about the U11 not following the trend as a bezel bully by keeping the familiar display ratio. I would like to see smaller bezels, more display, and more innovative ways to utilize the bezels space they do choose to keep. the edge sense sounds promising, let's see how much integration is possible with this feature. HTC sound is a welcome return, tho I'd like a 3.5mm jack. kudos for including an adapter tho. HTC always does really well with their IPS display coming very close to AMOLED contrast ratio. 2k display is a must, and the SD835. This is already a great phone with all those features but the camera also received the highest DxO score of any smartphone. truly a phone worth checking out. I'm certainly going to check it out.

Ahmad AZ No one cares. The headphone jack was removed for better noise cancellation, a better IP rating, and with the earphones that come with it out of the box, which are some of the best out right now and definitely the best that come with any smartphone, you really don't need it

Fran Bukulin - The Moto Z also has no 3.5, and now, there's even talk of Samsung possibly omitting them for next year's Galaxy S9...Unless you go Bluetooth, and those still require power and batteries to worry about, USB-C based headphones (or use of adapters for 3.5) are the wave of the near future that most of us, including myself, aren't ready for...yet!
@Thisath100
7 жыл бұрын
No, they aren't. Only HTC and some stupid Chinese brand did it. The people have spoken and they want the headphone jack. Apple no longer runs the head of the phone pack and when Samsung refused to remove it in the S8, they got many creds for that as well as a phone that sold stunningly well. That was the last call. It isn't going anywhere. Keep thinking Apple has that kind of dominance anymore, see where it goes. We decide what we want, not the companies for us. Either way, it's HTC who seems to be adamantly sucking Apple off, with the A9, the killing of the headphone jack while all the other Android manufacturers held their finger up to Apple and God knows what else in the future.

Muhammad Sufyan Anwar Why would it be a poor use of space? you guys don't know when to stop complaining. In their entire life span as a company, HTC has only had one flop, the U Ultra (and maybe the M9, depending on how you look at it). The U11 has some of the best speaker quality in any phone period, and the earphones that come with it are some of the best on the market and certainly the best that come with any smartphone. This phone has the best camera quality on any phone right now. This design is gorgeous (not as much as the G8, but it still looks gorgeous), with the beautiful Liquid Glass and small bezels, it's an old design that still works. The battery is the same one that comes with the GS8, which lasts all day and with the U11, it's gonna last even longer because it doesn't have that AMOLED display. There's really no reason to complain and I feel like you are just doing this for attention. Please take this L.

Welcome back to HTC Land (It's also the company's 20th Anniversary), where M-Series meets U-Series for the annual flagship replacement for 2017...I did not know about lack of OIS on the front-facer (Vloggers are not going to be happy with that, but since the HTC 10 wasn't a robust seller, who's gonna notice, right?) Other deal breakers with me are the absence of the 3.5 (and all that goes with it - figured upon that), and the continuation of the "fluidity" of the build and appearance - something a die-hard case user such as myself wouldn't have ever appreciated anyway... Good things are the IP67 rating, the rear camera and software improvements, the carry-over of the 360 (4 mic this time) recording, retention of the fingerprint sensor and the capacitives on the chin, and the BoomSound Hi-fi... I like the new Edge Sense features, but the possibility of 3 different AI choices is a bit much overkill, @ least to me (GA is enough)... Time will tell how the U11 faires (thank the Maker they still have the Google contract for the Pixel 2), but Meh... Since I would lose out on a few key features, and only gain on the Edge function and the extended dust/liquid resistance, I think I'll pass on this one, and keep on rocking my "Tiny Tank" (HTC 10), for at least a couple more years... Maybe longer!

Clous von why ? better recording , better price , better output sound , beter earphone quality ( active noice cancelation ) , better build quality , the amoled is better but i prefer htc lcd why? because it will not burn in like my current galaxy s5 , squeezing feature ! , better and smoother UI ! , better camera, better in box accessories , easy fingerprint placement also faster , it has UFS 2.1 on all the regions ( galaxy has UFS 2.0 and 2.1 in different regions !), android 7.1.1 not 7.0 , every htc phone got 100gb of google drive as a gift !!!!, and there is alot of things to not talking about !

Shadi Alafenish better price? the HTC costs just 50€ less in Europe. That's not that much in the high-end region burn in? Not even on my over 3 years old Note3. squeeze features? Useless, just like the knuckle features from Huawei... smoother UI? Nope. It just have NO animations and in my Eyes it looks like shit without any animations. Better Camera? Just DxO said this. But DxO also said, that the HTC10 has a better camera, then the S7 but in reality, the S7 was better 100gb on Google Drive? You also get 100GB on OneDrive when you buy a S7 or S8. And a lot things not to talk about? Like no headphone jack? The small battery (the S8-one is also shit)? Or the fact that it has a glass back but no wireless charging? That's a waste and shit.

I personally really like the design of this phone. However, it might be prone to scratches quite easily. What's the point of having a beautiful phone if it's going to be covered up in a case? The squeeze functionality is interesting. If it's reliable, I think it's a nice feature. The camera on this phone is the highest rated on DxOMark. Would love to hear your opinion on it, Michael. I know how much you loved the front-facing OIS in the HTC 10's camera. Love your videos! Waiting for the full review. ☺️

I love the orange/red/goldish colors. I love the design as well, but I can't justify spending 650+ for a smartphone that doesn't do much more than what the Oneplus 3 offers me. Also the headphone jack is a must for a guy like me that's an audiophile. Add the headphone jack back in and don't pitch me the wireless headphones. Then drop the price by 100 bucks and I'd be all over it. I must say I love the innovations that they're offering on the new stuff. Unfortunately it isn't anything that I NEED.

I was disappointed about the large bezels, then read HTC's explanation for not going bezeless. Unlike Samsung and LG who have their own display divisions, HTC don't. So it would have been too expensive and too much trouble to get the manufacturer to make the display exactly how they need it to be for a bezeless phone. Makes sense, and points for trying to make a splash in other areas. Great video as always, I agree that Sense is in dire need of a refresh.

big HTC fan. I've had the m8, still have the M9, and currently rock the 10 on Verizon. this really looks like an HTC 10 with a metallic skin slapped on the back. similar to the "upgrade" from the m8 to the M9. aside from the new chip and the water restance added, it's really not different than the 10. had they given it a larger battery, I'd consider it. looks like I'll be holding onto the 10 longer.
