This os my ideal laptop. I have the 2019 matebook 14, and after debloating windows and huawai apps, i get 9-11 hours of screen on due to the 1080p screen and 56wh battery. I thought the 2k display was going to be a bad battery drain for this laptop but i find out its 60hz and it has a 84wh battery. Thats amazing! This is perfect for me!

While this is a nice machine I don't think what you are getting justifies the insane pricehike compared to last years model. It's 500 Euros more I think. With the 5800h you'll probably get better battery life and better thermals at the cost of a little bit of performance which you won't be noticing anyways in your day to day tasks. If you need the touchscreen and the extra power provided by the alder lake cpu then it's a good choice I guess.

AT £1300 in the UK it is reasonable in price and compared to Samsung and the Surface line, very good value. We get the Mateview monitor free and discounts on other Huawei products which certainly sweetens the deal. I have the Matebook 14S which I bought for £699 in one of their sales and that is a great device. Obviously now on the previous 11th-gen but with the 12th-gen battery issues, maybe still worth a second look. Huawei not going with a dGPU is interesting and I wonder if it is to do with the US sanctions as this machine really is more a prosumer than ultrabook choice. Thanks!

This laptop could have been better with Intel's P-series, so 1280P for example, for nearly the same burstly performance but possibly more efficiency for the battery life and thermals... Alternatively the Ryzen U-line with 6800u or HS-line for slightly more power hungry chip such as 6(8-9)00HS for even better gaming/GPU performance on tthe integrated solution... outside of Adobe/productivity apps using heavily QSV to accelerate work.

1280P and even 1260P laptops are very expensive. Ryzen 7 6800H would suffice, HS-series APUs are more expensive and only belong in premium laptops like the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14/G15. And Ryzen 7 6800U doesn't provide the full gaming performance of the iGPU even at 35W when you overclock it, so only the 6800H makes sense. And even then, this laptop gets smoked by the likes or Redmibook Pro 15, I use the Redmibook Pro 15 with Ryzen 7 6800H and the iGPU and it's amazing and also pretty affordable for such a machine, and there is obviously an option to add the RTX 2050 discrete GPU for both the Intel and AMD machine (though the Ryzen 7 6800H+2050 version doesn't make sense, better to go with either the i5-12450H (not i7) + 2050 combo or to buy the Ryzen 7 6800H model. Alternatively if you are only going to use the laptop for browsing and photo editing and will not use it to play games, you can buy thr cheaper Ryzen 5 6600H model, as the CPU is still very fast and the graphics are very serviceable too better than Xe Graphics in games.

@@one_step_sideways I'm not sure that there is a significant difference between H and HS lines in terms of pricing at the contract amounts OEMs/manufacturers deal with. The HS however means less heat when the chassis is not capable of cooling efficiently the H lines, so not "only belong in premium laptops" but rather "only belong in slim laptops", and this is a slim laptop by mobile workstation standards, it's more of an exec class laptop, albeit at a lesser cost than the top of the line exec ones... And sure, the 680M in the H series might be boosting higher and offer higher performance and the chip might be better for gaming, but this is not the typical use-case for this laptop anyway... and the thinner chassis means this CPU is not actually even fully capable of safely and silently extend its proper reach in such demanding tasks. However a more power efficient and thus longer lasting when needed on limited resources chip designed for cooling by slimmer chassis might prove beneficial at a negligent performance delta when called upon, thus HS and even higher U line models would suffice and be better in the grand scheme of things (maybe gaming excluded). Furthermore, if we're talking about productivity tasks, then unfortunately AMD is still at slight a disadvantage, because majority of productivity tools have incorporated optimisation for Intel chips and specifically for their QSV feature where applicable to do things smarter and faster and not just brute-force more-power faster... even though majority of Intel top-of-the-line chips seem to favor the latter method to boost their product families reach/distance from competition. In my short testing the 1280P works in a similar fashion to HS from AMD, it offers nigh on same/similar performance as the higher powered stack's comparable model (especially in shorter or less demanding workloads) but can constrain itself safely to work in thinner chassis designs and offer better battery life, and it still has Intel's top iGPU to bolster the productivity tasks with hardware acceleration enabled... So for the typical addressee of this laptop, it fills the compute needs well enough and is sippy/prudent enough to warrant installation in a slimmer chassis without overwhelming the cooling solutions (or making it too noisy to use in work spaces). And that is also why I think such a chip could have been better used here.

@@marcin_karwinski There's the new Lenovo Yoga Pro laptop that I've seen on Alibaba that costs some $1500 for the Ryzen 7 6800HS model. The specs aren't anything crazy and it's hardly better than the $1000 Redmibook Pro 15 (best value for your money) and the $1150 IdeaPad 5 Pro with either of them having a Ryzen 7 6800H. The HS lineup is made up of binned chips that have very good energy efficiency first and foremost, despite having a base TDP of 35W, they can easily boost to 80W without any problems. It's basically a substitute for the HX-series APUs that would be normally installed in big gaming desktop replacement laptops. That's why you never see HS-series APUs inside the laptops that are cheaper thasn $1500. The likes of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 can still handle those chips at 60-70W TDP.

I worked for Huawei once, I got fired within a week as they were reading all the personal emails I was sending from my phone connected to their wifi - and I made the mistake of joking about a managers nickname "Woody". He was called Kin Sang Ji Westwood, and despite introducing himself at interview to me, as Woody; apparently actually referring to him as this was a crime punishable by immediate sacking the first chance he got. So I learned in the mid 00s that Huawei have absolutely NO issue spying on their staff, and then using that information as if they gained it legally. I would not buy anything from them again, nor work with them because I think this is the sign of a controlled company. No CEO would allow this in the free market it would spell disaster. But for a company funded and operated by a foreign government it doesn't matter, because they do the spying.
