Dr. Huey P. Newton was a revolutionary political activist who founded The Black Panther Party (at the age of 24) which is one of the most powerful influential groups ever to be deeply involved with the Black Power movement. The party worked for the betterment of the black community.. Dr. Huey P. Newton grew up in Oakland where he often found himself the victim of rampant racial discrimination. In spite of attending several public schools he was never taught anything of value which forced him to self-educate himself. By the time he reached his last year in high school he was a functional illiterate who could not read. Newton wanted to go to college, but when he talked to a counselor he made the mistake by telling him he was not college material. Newton set out to prove them wrong. Embarrassed by not knowing how to read he decided to teach himself, going on to read The Republic by Plato as his first book.
@BeautifulNoella

Dr. Huey P. Newton attended every grammar and junior high school in the city of Oakland. Newton had a wide experience with the kind of education Oakland offers it's poor people. At the time, he did not understand the size or seriousness of the school system assault on black people. He knew only that it made him feel uncomfortable and ashamed to be black. Dr. Huey P. Newton enrolled at Merritt College after being told by school officials that he wasn't intelligent enough to do college work. At Merritt College he joined the Afro-American Association and became involved in politics. Newton later attended the University of San Francisco Law School. A voracious reader he read the works of Karl Marx, Malcolm X, Vladimir Lenin etc. which influenced his political thoughts. The Black Panthers were closely involved with the Black Power movement that focused on promoting political and cultural interests of black people. In 1967, the organization began circulating it's official newspaper.

The Black Panther Party became very popular due to the causes it prompted and it had expanded to several cities in the U.S like Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, etc by 1968. The party had more than 10,000 members by 1969. The organization developed a Ten-Point Program in which they outlined their demands for freedom from brutality, education, housing food security and peace. The Black Panthers led by Newton initiated a number of social programs for the betterment of the black community. These initiatives include opening of educational facilities, breakfast for children programs, martial arts training for teenagers, free ambulance programs, a senior escort program, as well as dental and optometry programs. Dr. Huey P. Newton published his autobiography 'Revolutionary Suicide' in 1973.

Dr. Huey P. Newton was a well educated revolutionary. He earned his Ph.D in history of consciousness from the University of California in 1980. Dr. Huey P. We shouldn't judge people based on their race. It should be based on their actions and how they live. They don't want black people to be successful in anything that we do. People back then tried hard because they were discriminated against and had limited rights. Our people like Huey who started the black panthers tried to help his people not to let European people destroy our mind, body and spirit. Now we are in 2016 and my people have started to wake up so they can know their real history. It is time to let them know we were not just slaves but we were inventors, builders, scientists and other great things. A change will come when we are willing to step up for our own people and say we have had enough of this discrimination and oppression. God didn't put us on this earth to hate people. America does not want Black Americans to have reparations nor equality, so they passify with the illusion of equality. It is not a gift to live and learn and work near white people, it has been the worse thing for Black people. May this brother rest in peace. They cut out extremely important points in this interview and it's unfortunate but this is Amerikkka in all its glorious censorship.

Huey P. Newton had to been turning in his grave. He thought the party couldn't be eliminated but it was! Black people haven't been the same since.

Huey got a degree at the University of California Santa Cruz when I was also a student there. 😓 I didn't ever know him even though I had heard of the Black Panthers. But who hadn't? Huey played piano & studied music theory too. His degree was in philosophy I believe. My degree was a BA in music, and I was just like an ass that they put blinders on, and load up with a heavy load to carry. There's grass to eat everywhere, all around for the ass, but the unfortunate ass is controlled by the oppressor, and only rewarded a little grass after he has worked and toiled hard.

I marvel at him.. he wasn't as poetic and his speech isn't as moving as MLK or Tupac. He was simply an everyday man who was tired and willing to stand up against oppression.

This was his downfall being in prison especially at that time for a black man I know first hand what jail can do to your spirit. Yes you can accomplish things in jail, GED, Degree ect but you're still locked in a cage treated like a animal shit animals get treated better in the humane society then when a human is in jail. I feel like that's why he was the way he was towards the end of his life.

"We're not against white people, we're against Capitalism." Huey said that during a speech in a white people University in 1966 FBI head knew and stated that the dangerous of Black Panther wasn't just against the "white power" in abstract but against the Power itself, if poorer white working class is influenced by Black Panther program (Socialism) the thing could become uncontrollable then the persecution against Black Panther became the main aim of FBI idem US government in general.
