Was a dealer in the 80's thru to early 2000's! When I started all we had were price guides, or talking to other dealers to figure out prices. I went to actions a lot, and got some really good deals. Sold mostly Art Deco, Pottery, and early Asian and Latin. Would love to still be doing it, and love doing shows, but physically unable. But, I am going to sell on ebay, some small items and jewelry. But miss the old days, and the hunt for the old, and rare items.

Hi George. I’ve been binging on your videos on KZitem recently. It is impressive the amount of antiques mall, flea market and sales over there in North America. I go around here too but in a much smaller area. I’m in Norway and I usually drive around Scandinavia only, mostly in my own country, Sweden and Denmark in search of mid century modern Scandinavian pieces. I sell mid century German ceramics and Czech glass too. I’m kind of in a niche but I love to watch you and learn about American manufacturers. I don’t find them over here regularly but sometimes something pops up. I do flea market in summer but year around on Etsy. Nice to meet you one day.

Hello! It's so exciting to me to have viewers from Europe joining. We see lots of good Scandinavian modern in the states, my grandfather was Danish and Swedish, and I grew up in the most Norwegian town in the states (Poulsbo, Washington), so I really enjoy the wares of your region. Good to know there's a flea market and show community there, hope to see it someday!

Our son's granny & granpa were big drinkers and had an actual bar in their 'rumpus room'. It was built in the early '60s and had a moving Falstaff Beer Clock/lamp. Lighted and two full beer mugs that would swing and clank together as seconds go by. It's incredible. Anyway our son Levi has it now and it's in practically perfect shape! Absolutely love that sea green 'ameba' style low bowl! Wow so pretty; probably long gone... BTW, speaking of LA pottery show, did you ever attend/show at the huge San Jose Pottery show that went on for several years? I would travel (from Oregon) by train to SJ and my sister and I would go to that show for all the days it was open. Great show!
@TheAntiqueNomad
3 жыл бұрын
That Falstaff clock would be worth a small fortune now! That's great that it lasted. The green bowl sold practically right away, that show was so busy. I wish I'd known of the SJ show when it was around, I did the LA show to introduce Treasure Craft/Pottery Craft and my book to the collector market, and it did surprisingly well for me!

I think many will be surprised at what you actually pay for items and what they realized. You know your market well, thus you purchase specifically for that. Most, I would think, that your profit margins are not enough. In the real world, doubling or tripling your money is realistic. Buying things for 50 cents and $1 and then selling them for $35-$50 is a pipe dream, especially when you look at what can be purchased for those prices! Doing shows, I am sure you are more focused on turning over inventory as opposed to packing things up and hoping for a killer profit next show. I never did shows, so seeing that side of life is just fascinating. Yes, there are lots of vendors that are overpriced and go for the jugular. Your head is realistically screwed on. Thanks.
@TheAntiqueNomad
4 жыл бұрын
Hi! You definitely were paying attention, I do work on a lower profit margin than a lot of resellers and try to make up for it in volume. Since I do this full time for a living, I have to keep things moving and I have to keep a level of inventory that's interesting to show attendees. A space full of thrift store finds could be more profitable but unlikely to find a lot of really collectible stuff, all I hear lately in other thrift videos is that there's nothing to buy because it's winter.
@rickeydonald4756
4 жыл бұрын
The Antique Nomad besides donations being down in winter, the thrift stores have caught on to the reselling craze. They look up items and price things ridiculously. Well, why wouldn’t they, when they see these haul videos and what I paid and what I’m going to make. Now, there is some smoke and mirrors mentality. Please keep your videos grounded in the joy of collecting, real sales results, and most of all- our education! Thanks.
@TheAntiqueNomad
4 жыл бұрын
Rickey Donald thank you for the encouragement! The only reason resellers can survive is because someone really understands and wants what you're selling. That's why the love and interest must come first! The thrift stores aren't letting things go without research now, it's a fact
