Hey Chuck & Deb, the only thing better than seeing the beautiful black walnut slabs was hearing the enthusiasm and excitement in both your voices as you described each slab’s amazing figure, growth history, and size! I did cringe though every time I saw you lift and wrangle slabs by hand, please stay safe to avoid back injuries. Keep filming and I’ll keep watching! ☮️💟 from Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Thank you Anthony. We are genuinely excited to see what is hiding inside of each log. Thank you also for your concern with lifting. We have replaced a lot of the manual operations with levers, pulleys, and hydraulics. Any lifting, is done as safe as possible. Lifting with the legs, and keeping the ab muscles tight. No jerking moves. With a history of back issues, I take precautions. More of these slabs to come, and lots more walnut waiting in the log yard for the mill. Thank you for all of your support, and we look forward to seeing you in the comment section.

We could drive for days around our little corner of the world. The scenery is beautiful. We may purchase some of those pieces that we can't mill ourselves. He has a nice operation there. Sycamore is a challenge to mill, and keep it straight /flat. I learned some tricks from this sawyer on how to prevent that. We are always sharing ideas.

Love yalls videos, Are yall selling your slabs green, air dry or do you have a kiln and making live edge tables, furniture? I am in Tennessee and trying to figure out the business end of the slabs, Keep up the great work 😎👍
@IronOakSawmill
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Byron. Yes, we sell air dried slabs. 1 year per inch of thickness is the rule of thumb for air drying. Stack, stickered, strapped and covered. Keep the cover loose on the sides to allow plenty of air flow. Think of it like a tent without sides to keep the water off. There are kilns near us, but all are book solid with kiln drying jobs. Some folks appreciate the fact that we air dry, as they like how it retains more of the woods natural color and appearance. We will keep making videos, if you keep watching. Ask any questions. We are happy to help.
