Highly doubt Dan overbets Ax for value, maybe AJ or AT or a trapped AK etc, so I dont know if i like the decision to polarize. By betting smaller, he has a wider value range as well as giving him a more attractive price to bluff. For example against JJ you could argue a bet of 7k on the river looks stronger than the jam. Idk tho, just a thought.

ithink that when we have KT there ,the bluff being made on the turn was too random.Whati seems sound to me is to bet any diamond ,the queen (and the jack if it was checked on the turn),and if this doesnt seem enough you can bet a 4 or a 5 potentially on the r=turn just because it shifts the range advantage to you ,as the preflop 3-bettor doesnt have a str8 nearly ever ,neither a set all that often when he checks such a turn.Darren's strat on the turn ,doesnt seem to be ifluenced by blockers atm since ott when he checks he's already highish on his range and yea he doesnt block diamonds as well.On rver situation might be exactly the same ,not sure,but conclusively I don't like smith's play one bit there,just way too random.

JJ or TT is the best hand to call down here considering your analysis at 8:05 that the most common hand will be AT or AJ. very smart and useful blocker play.
@MaximillianNewman
5 жыл бұрын
Can anyone explain why it’s a bad play for JJ to bet the turn? Maybe around 3/4 pot? My thinking would be to get flush draws to fold, and if you get a call then you gotta think the guy has an Ace, at which point you check the river and deliberate between calling or folding if the opponent bets. Just seems like with Jacks when there’s only one overcard out there, if your opponent makes top pair, you’re going to lose some money no matter what, so the turn bet makes sense to me. Thoughts anyone?
@bluefatrat
5 жыл бұрын
Generally if you are in a spot where if you bet better hands will call you and worse hands will fold to you you want to check. This is obviously the most true on the river and less true on previous streets when a flush draw still has 20% against you, but you want to check and let your opponent bluff off his stack against you.
@ryand8338
5 жыл бұрын
@Maximillian Newman Your assumption is that flush draws would fold for a 3/4 pot bet in position. It is easier to call with a flush draw in position knowing that you can get extra value from your opponent when you hit the flush and also have an opportunity to bluff your opponent on the river when the flush misses. Therefore betting does not decrease the range of hands your opponent has by that much and you learn little about your opponent's hand. Sure he may fold some flush draws some of the time but not that often. This means your bet has bloated the pot, giving your opponent more value when he has you beat and more incentive to bluff with his missed draws, and you still have to play the same guessing game you had on the turn with a mediocre hand. While it is not great to have to consider calling down out of position with a mediocre hand, it is certainly better to do so without bloating the pot beforehand.

I believe the flop was c-bet with a smaller sizing as well?
@kevinkane5595
5 жыл бұрын
The bet was 1400 into a 3500 pot (40% pot) MDF and position dictates Dan needs to call with at least ~70% or he is exploitable (ie Darren could always bet 40% pot and make a profit). Dan has lots of possible hands in this spot so back door straight, back door nut flush, probably makes it into that top 70% range,... barely. In lots of lower stakes live game you don’t need to consider MDF heads up, at this level. You could call with a smaller % of hands.
@toddzickel2548
5 жыл бұрын
@@kevinkane5595 why does Dan have to call at 70% and how did you get that? There are times for a great bluff but to burn $20K on that flop?
@kevinkane5595
5 жыл бұрын
Todd Zickel MDF is minimum defense frequency. Essentially the smaller the bet is to the size of the pot, then the more it should be called. Imagine in this hand if the flop bet was only $35 into $35,000. Then Dan should call with almost everything (99.9%). But if the bet were $350,000 then you should only call with the very very top hands (1%). So MDF provides a guide to how many times you need to call. I think it’s 1 - (bet size / (pot size plus + bet size) ) = 1 - (14 / (35 +14)) = 1 - 0.286 = 0.714 which is 71.4% if the flop bet were bigger, the percent goes down, if the flop bet smaller the percent goes up.

I really think the sizing on the river was too polarizing as Darren can definitely be check calling an Ace on the turn and trapping AA as well. And shoving AT for a 1.2x pot otr is just a bit thin and I think Darren picked up on this and his JJ blocking the most likely thin value bet otr (AJ) led him to discounting AK and AQ as Dan is probably 3b those and AT would bet a half pot-ish size to get a crying call from KK-TT. Also, there's still any possible 44, 55, 56ss, 56dd, 64ss, 64dd, 52s, 42s, diamond draw or even air balls like KdTo (lul). I just think on this run-out facing a two street check from a pfa, Dan Smith in particular is going to be too bluff heavy. Darren seems like a great player too.

Many players would c/c c/c pocket pairs as opposed to betting otf I feel, though I like your strat to deny equity and charge draws with lower pocket pairs in general (i'd like doing it with pocket pairs that can turn more equity too, as on low/medium boards - they give you more unexpected straights/sets... I'll add it in to my arsenal. Wonder what ppl think about jamming here in this particular spot with a merged range with hands like ak/aq with a diamond. You block more flushes by having diamonds there, and you can induce hero calls from a range with many medium aces I reckon (while not getting beat often). Especially live, you see a lot more hero calls with ax in these spots I think than there should be. It also allows you to bluff with hands like dan's in this spot, and generates more fold equity vs the right players too. If you're bluffing here, gutters would be better as it maximises chances of opponents having FDs though, I feel.

Reason for the call is the limited winning hands Dan would have. Going all in with Ax hardly ever happens here. 77 less likely to get the bet on the flop. So it’s A3 or 45 he doesn’t want to see. A busted flush draw or a bluff then seemed to fit a large part of what Dan was doing.
@alienpoker
5 жыл бұрын
Doug goes on and in about the Jd as a “possible blocker” then doesn’t actually consider why Dan is so less likely to have AJs. Sure there are two more in the deck, but AJh and AJc are blocked by your hand. Ad is on the board, so he can’t have AJd. So there is EXACTLY one combo of AJs he can have. Yes, the are the AJo but I’m not pitting him on any AJ when I call. Period.
@izzitreallyd22

He DOES consider that a lot of AJ are blocked by having jacks! Suited or not doesn't matter, Dan never folds AJ pre in this spot, just doesn't have it so often as you stated and Doug said in the video.

Why do Dealers take big stacks of chips ( when moving them to the winning player ) and topple them over intentionally making the player re stack them when its just as easy to move the stacks, intact, to the winning player. I understand why they do it mid hand so as to make a uniform chip stack in the middle but to do it after the hand is over seems stupid if not ignorant at best.

Doug, I love you but why is folding KTo on an A high flop to the pre-flop raiser's C-bet too nitty? I think I am folding KTo almost every time in this spot... but then again, I am not good so maybe I'm torching money...
@masanetthomas8586
5 жыл бұрын
It's not nitty. It's just conservative. Here you are in position, you have good equity against small pairs and you can bluff on almost every diamond+ you have got very good odds (1400 in a pot of 6000 is quite nice). This is one of your best non flush draw hand to float. Not to do if you are not experimented enough to know how to play floats but this is a good candidate to call. I might fold from times to times depending on the player betting in the sb.
