Isn’t this technically a step backwards, with all the science behind drilling and seed to soil contact it’s basically gone back 50 years+ by broadcasting the seed with just the new tech being the drone instead of the fert spinner. Cover crop applications into standing crop I can understand but main crops is there a potential financial return? Really interesting though

The drone part was really amazing, but also curious about if you could in theory set say a spring barley with the winter barley and just lift the header up off the ground so you don't mess up the spring stuff? I think the main future for drones on a farm are spraying and firtilizing spreading. When they find a way to reduce down time due to battery reloading and refilling And ofcourse crop scouting with ai the determen crop health
@hughmarcus1
Жыл бұрын
@@jefuytterhoeven4893I’ve seen videos of drones spraying crops in the Far East & one in America. I think the challenge in the UK will be meeting the regs around drift etc as they seem to run at a much higher level than a sprayer boom. One definite application would be tackling stuff like bracken on steep slopes. As for broadcasting seed, as well as the stuff Ollie is doing, the other obvious benefit would be wet areas or getting seeds in the ground when it’s too wet to travel with a tractor.
@johnwarwick4105
Жыл бұрын
Loving the drone even sounds like a helicopter. Hope the vibration doesn’t separate all the OSR to the bottom of the hopper. It could cover loads of ground if you could reduce the sowing rates. Tried some of those solder crimps a few years ago and wasn’t impressed. I think they need some flux putting on the wires before fitting. Like the heat shrink crimp fittings better

Interesting using a drone to sow OSR, but won't this need to be rolled in, or harrowed in ? Leaving untreated seed on the surface seems to be a birds' idyll. Glad you've got it all in, ref the sheaf, we always hung one up in one of the barns, don't know why to be honest, just carried on after my Grandfather retired.

Fantastic to see the last cut of the wheat - amazing job to have dodged the showers across the harvest season to be able to get it all in, especially given the number of rain days at the beginning where you feared you would still be cutting in September. Enjoy the show this weekend The drone tech is interesting and potentially offers a great tool for you to explore the capabilities of with the quadrotor team. For heavy land, it must have huge potential to get fert on when the conditions are right but the ground is too soft to travel. Given the location of the airport and the various drone flying exclusion zones, did you have much trouble getting permission to fly?
