I wish I was closer, as I'd be buying wood from you. The local papermill doesn't have a lot of tickets for the loggers, and it has been EXTREMELY wet here... so I'm not seeing a lot of folks cutting wood. Watchin' that "Greedy Grabber" knuckleboom reminds me of Divorce Court. - I was thinkin' for a load that big, he needed some speed-up music. Right then, the "Fistful of Dollars" music broke in, made me start a little! But seemed appropriate to the vid. Another fistfull of dollars for Chris. Amazing how much that adds to your fortune! When you got a lot of work, you just use the music to do the work of 2 or 5 guys!! Wonder if Kenny knows about that stuff? Wonder if it'd work for me? I've been slowing down the last few DECADES! A coupla' days like that, and I wouldn't have anything to do the rest of the year!! If everybody did that, we'd wind up with a lot less trees!! Then look what you'd have caused! The whole place would look like an Amish farm!!! (A big pasture, not many trees.) Hey! Just had a great idea for you! An Amish photograph studio! Not many of those around!!... Maybe not. Me I’m goin with Ry Cooders version, though I am a bit partial to the Leon Russell one as well….and I’ll let ya know tomorrow Irene’s choice……..

@InTheWoodyard
Жыл бұрын
The bark is different...more smooth on hard (rock/sugar) and soft (red) maple has a pinkish cambium layer under the outer bark and hard maple usually has a dark grey bulls eye in the middle (heart wood). I agree it is tough some times!

Жыл бұрын

@IloveSPIDERZ

As an (almost) arborist, and who works in trees in the daily, I've gotten very used to feeling the weight of them, thus can usually tell the difference just by that on the limb wood (in the absence of leaves). Both the Red and Sugar maples burn super nice, steady, and clean
@waynetharp
Жыл бұрын
@IloveSPIDERZ The charts I use say there is only 500lbs difference between hard and soft maple per cord of wood. That is fairly close ... I think some of my issues with identifying are all the hybrid types of Maple. The bark can vary a lot for one type to another...

It is done by measuring the average height and length when it is on the trailer.

How do they determine a "cord" by volume (measure) or do they also use weight?

Does that price include delivery? (trucking)

@@two-strokesmoke7289 Seems to, they don't make much profit on it, but it's getting rid of rubbish wood that they can't make decent lumber from. Pays the fuel/wear & tear and driver's wages no doubt. Otherwise it would probably get processed/chipped and pelleted for burning in a power station maybe?

It is an average of measurements taken on the load to figure it.

They make good money on it but the real money is in the veneer and #1 lumber logs that are creamed off the job first, firewood is low grade wood.

Why didn't the driver lay down some stringers to keep it up off the ground?

🤨 You missed it in the video He actually mentioned that he did give him a tip. It's a good practice to read others comments prior to asking or commenting.

When load off wood turn up to the wood yard, its like Christmas time celebration... I think Chris have to invest allot in this 🪵 business upfront, untill winter comes, and that's when he gets back all Benjamin's pay back? Chris do u run your Husky's at 40:1 or 50:1 ratio? Ash and hard Maple is money in the bank - fast cash, if i was u, i would stock it up, later u might not get any at all...
