You make videos about the tricks that seem forgotten by the other trials youtubers, which I appreciate. Like one other guy commented, turning while back wheel hopping would be much appreciated. You also seem to identify the nuances often forgotten by other tutorial makers, often it's when you say you will "try to explain" and it's when I get an aha moment. I experienced while trying the tips in this video that just a _little_ speed towards the ledge helped a great deal because I struggle with balance at no speed. When at complete stand still with one wheel up the ledge I tighten all my muscles and use all my energy trying to get into position and I can't focus on the crouching and brakes. With some small amount of speed you introduce the timing issue but at least it was easier for me. When I got the feel of the move it was easier to translate to standstill.

I'm so glad to hear this - thanks so much for the feedback! Pumped that you got things moving with the Lunge technique from this video, too. There's a lot of nuance to the trick, but definitely a few ways to make it easier to learn - sounds like you got it! Here is the link for the tutorial on back wheel hops and turning, I hope this helps: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kqWB0aqga3ujaYI

Funny how I go out and practice a move like the lunge and then come back to review your tutorial on it and am like, yup, he was right! I still need to work on the brake release part. When I fail at a lunge, it is typically not due to height, but due to not getting my rear wheel fully forward on to the obstacle. I think the slight rock back and forward with brake off would help with that part.
@SuperRiderTV
2 жыл бұрын
You’re making such solid progress! That rock back is a huge unlock, it’ll help for sure.

@@SuperRiderTV thanks man! One other thing I noticed was when I was trying to lunge on a picnic table that had a pretty big gap from the bench to the table top. Because I was mentally worried about getting my front wheel far enough on to the table top, I was slightly rotating the bike toward the table, which rotated the rear wheel further away mid air, making the distance needed to cover for the rear further, and thus sometimes coming up short. Doing a lunge up to something where I don't care about the front, I think I "cheat" a little and get the rear on partly with a small rotation of the rear end toward the obstacle.
@SuperRiderTV
2 жыл бұрын
Makes total sense - I struggle is when it comes to riding up obstacles that have open fronts. I’m always afraid that I’ll undershoot and end up falling under the obstacle. That mental game is just as hard - if not harder - than the actual technique! I end up talking to myself a lot when it comes to hard moves, that’s my trick for keeping my brain under control when I ride.

Awesome video, I've always wondered what the name for this move even was, let alone how to do it. Do you have any tutorials on how to turn around while on the back wheel? I always find myself only being able to go straight forward when back hopping? Such a tutorial would be great, as I'm having difficulties learning it, and there's a lack of tutorials on it!

@@SuperRiderTV Just a quick question, do you use a pedal kick to do this or just muscle it up with a little pedal punch like I do.
@SuperRiderTV
3 жыл бұрын
No pedal kick, just the little punch like you’re doing. At taller/steeper heights it wouldn’t be possible to utilize the pedals at all, so it’s best to learn it without.
@richardjones2811
3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperRiderTV True that regarding the taller/steeper obstacles. The way I practiced was trying to see how high I could pop the front up first then seeing how high I could pop the rear before combining both together. Really good video though man, especially since you ride the same bike as me 😉

The correct name for the technique is surge 😎 And you should not get off both brakes, always at least one brake engaged, most often the front brake. But, it depends on the obstacle. Keep it up!
@SuperRiderTV
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! What would you call the move where you push your front wheel into the face of an obstacle and pedal kick up onto it (I think made famous by Martin Kleivard) - that’s the move we refer to as a surge. So many overlapping names for moving your bike a full length in different directions! :)
@eiriktrials
3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperRiderTV Do you mean a static pedal-kick with a front wheel tap? Or rolling, thus a pedalup or tap? And by face of the obstacle, you mean the vertical or horizontal part? A bit hard to image techniques just out of a written description 😆
@SuperRiderTV
3 жыл бұрын
The vertical (front) of the obstacle, totally static. Then you lean back, the front wheel comes back away slightly, and you pedal kick and slingshot forward up onto the feature. If you are on a flat surface jumping up, we’d call it a surge...and if your back wheel is on another feature, we’d call it a wedge. Does that help?
@eiriktrials
3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperRiderTV Ok, I would just call that technique a pedal-kick. But, in the end, the names of the techniques are up to each rider to define, and probably different to each country. In Spain pretty much all techniques are just called PAMPAM 😆

A little late but... Coiling and exploding. Crouching tends to preload a tire, in turn, the tire will return to its relaxed state, lightening the workload of lifting the bike along. That move is what I refer to as coil and explode!
@SuperRiderTV
Жыл бұрын
That's a great way to think of this move, I can totally see it!
@Sunspot-19

Like a coil spring going under compression and rapidly released. That kinetic energy is ours to play with! A little lower tire pressure to permit preloading the tire to make the bike seem lighter to bring along with us on the lunge to an obstacle. Playtime, Aaron, play time!! Cause bikes...

I still struggle to find nice place around my block to start learning that often so have a few questions emarks. 1. Looks like you do not clearly put rear wheel where the front was. You put rear one on the same height as the front was. Otherwise (if you do kinda wheel swap) it doesn't matter how close your rear wheel to the curb because your wheel base doesn't change. 2. It is obviously better to try it with... lasting feature (like in this video) but could I try on a high curb or a concrete block? Looks scary. 8-) 3. And so how I got it (or trying on a regular curb of 20 cm high or so). You try to lift bike with jump pretty high and move it forward while mid air? So main goal is to jump high?
@SuperRiderTV
Жыл бұрын
High curbs are a great place to practice, for sure! Depending on the spot or your experience with the technique, you'll dial in the wheel placement even more. I might have been a little lazy with my wheel placement in this video, which is also fine when you have lots of space to move around. My best advice is to focus on hopping up, and then reposition your bike and your body at the peak.
