Crowdfunding is hard, there are so many hurdles that can appear. That being said, this is an established company that made certain promises, and the company should be held to those promises. I don't normally encourage suits, but if the backers did not get what they were promised, they should file.

Over 20% of projects I've backed on Kickstarter have failed to deliver on exactly what was promised. In some cases the fault was with Kickstarter itself. In most cases, at least an attempt was made to communicate the circumstances. In some cases, this communication wasn't properly delivered by Kickstarter. In some cases, lack of adequate communications on the part of the company involved resulted in rewards not being delivered (when the company has backers who pledged outside of Kickstarter for instance and so they have an obligation to communicate with their non-KS backers themselves and don't bother doing so). In some cases, companies have been screwed over by someone else and end up involved on litigation. In at least one instance, there was a "take the money and run" scenario. Pledging only with established reputable companies who've run successful crowdfunding campaigns before is not necessarily protection, but it helps. Anyway, thanks for staying on top of this. It's good to have someone looking out for us.

Remember I got a mail from them basically saying "Hey, we know we are severely lagging behind, so we only feel it's right to pay you back your money, where do you want them sent?". I backed the Catch the Snitch game. It's currently on its way to me, but when I started seeing the uproar in the community about the major difference in scale I was quite disappointed. I backed the game and nearly all of it's add-ons not just for the board game itself but also to use in the HPMAG. Several of the characters were extremely limited releases you just can't find anymore and I was glad they were included in Snitch. The difference in scale ruins the immersion and visible enjoyability of these miniatures. I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing with them now as they no longer will serve their major purpose for why I paid for them.

People (both backers and creators) need to be reminded that backing a Kickstarter project is not that same as pre-ordering a retail product. It is to fund a project that may, or may not, be successful or even or even produce a tangible product at the end. Take a look at the Pathfinder Online kickstarter project for a perfect example of this.

It's pretty clear that, in a manner similar to how GW left out the Rogal Dorn tank's bottom plate, the company did this to save plastic and reduce production costs, which just happens to boost the profit margin per unit sold. The phrase "penny wise and pound foolish" comes to mind, as such cost cutting measures cost these companies more in lost good will and sales from their customers than it saved them in plastic. Well, not GW. In their case, people just complain profusely then pony up to the bar and pay anyway.

Typically with screwed up crowdfunded games, it's actually the opposite. A "big" game company might have 50 employees where as the legal definition of a small business is 500 or fewer employees. This small size and relatively low margin environment means that most products are launched by people who are passionate about their projects but untrained in business administration. and/or project management. I didn't back either game but mini scale final production outcomes are interesting. I backed a game ultimately called Destinies and I was relatively shocked at how tiny the miniatures were when the boxes arrived. For some reason I never imagined they would be that small. I even went back to the campaign page to see if there were visual clues I missed...to see if maybe that was my oversight. Unfortunately, it just wasn't very clear due to lack of comparison objects of known size. Anyway since it was a stand alone game and not designed to be compatible it didn't matter but I feel like I need a magnifying glass to distinguish unpainted minis. I did back the recent big box storage solution that yet again won't support sleeves...sigh.

There are some really good kickstarter companies and there are some bad ones. Do your research check their past campaigns and their Facebook page. If you like what you see then back the kickstarter. I have backed a number of kickstarters in the past and only had an issue with the upzone kickstarter not being delivered on time but the creator was great and sorted out the issues quickly so I can't complain. If they state in the campaign that the models will be compatible with the other game system then after the kickstarter they announce that the scale is different then you should be able to get a refund due to the product not being as advertised.
