⭐️ Huge monastery carved on the slope of a steep cliff
Did you know about the huge monastery with 72 rooms, carved and built on the slope of a steep cliff, at an altitude of 1150 m above sea level and 300 m above the valley?
Although it is said to be dating back to the 4th century AD, this monument is a work of the Trebizond Empire period, from the 13th and 14th centuries.
This is the Greek Orthodox monastery, namely Sumela, located in the Maçka district of Trabzon province, within the borders of Altındere Valley National Park.
Sumela continues to amaze its visitors.
