Splitting wood sounds like a noisy operation . Years ago when there were many single cylinder engines on different operations some users used to fit flexible exhaust pipes and bury the ends in a bucket of soil/gravel . It was remarkable how much quieter the engines became . Might be worth a try .

Hi Heath - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. The majority of your commentary was, for me, drowned out by engine noise. I agree with you that the 6 way wedge was not the most ideal for this project, I certainly don't like the way many pieces come out at 45 degrees. I never understand why folk complain about the amount of debris produced by a box wedge. To my mind I'd have a great supply of kindling as an effortless by-product from the splitting operation. But what would I know - I'm just a simple West of Ireland guy!
@hardworkingmanoutdoors

I am still trying to figure the sound out. I’ll get it! For these big rounds a box wedge definitely shines. I was happy that the 6 way was able to break most of them up. I definitely prefer the smaller rounds.

First off, despite my adoration of your wife, I must disagree with her insomuch as I do miss your rushed “Welcome to Hard Working Man” intro. The reason being, you start out speaking at a breakneck pace and your work pace thereafter never lets up. At about the 6:00 minute mark I swear you said, “Hercules, Hercules!” However, I chalked it up to bad hearing as surely HWM wouldn’t utter that! Ah, but then I heard Rachael say the same thing. 😂 Notice how much less waste than the box wedge? Of course, improving your splitting technique on it would produce less box wedge waste. Regardless, I like the All Wood better (I’m sure you do too). I love how Rachael is there to fact-check you lol

I have to agree, there are a lot of great splitters out there and I have been impressed by the All Wood and the Eastonmade. If you can try to take a positive out of the price increases of these machines across the board it is that they hold their value. I bought the Eastonmade splitter with almost 400 hours on it and paid almost what they bought it for new. So in a sense it made them money for 3 years and then they moved in to a processor.
