Have memories of my grandpa and father fishing off the rocks. We went there every Christmas. My mother and I were there too. I was only little. My grandparents lived in Margate. My uncle owned the Blue Lagoon restaurant, and we went to see them with my cousins. Remember the candy floss, too. The sea was always lovely.

This is exactly why I would never build or live in a house on the verge of the ocean. Those people hanging around so close could get washed away if a huge wave gets closer. 😮

great video Mike, gives a good perspective of the power of nature and why we should never underestimate its power nor ever turn our backs to the sea. The sheer power of the waves is unbelievable. it's so sad the destruction is caused to many, especially to the restaurant in mariner beach. We feel for them all, just happy they all safe. The south coast is a beautiful place indeed and you've captured it well.

I have heard many stories like this, there were many occasions of freak waves climbing well over the ledge at orange rocks and sweeping the anglers all the way to back gully. Some people unfortunately lost their lives due to the injuries. Very unpredictable the ocean. Be blessed 🙌

I always earmark the weeks around Equinox ( +/- Sept 21 and March 21). The sea becomes really unpredictable with rogue waves and big tidal shifts.
@MAfishingadventures
10 ай бұрын
Hi there Patrick, I agree with you totally, we spend a lot of time at the beach mainly Margate pier, and we are very familiar with the scenery and scenarios that take place there with regards to the high tides, how far up the waves normally would reach, how low does the water go out in the low tides, what reefs are visible when this takes place. In the recent times, we have seen some very significant changes when it comes to what the ocean is doing and levels that it reaches in the high tides. Previously certain places on the rocks where easily accessible, but now due to the water levels these ledges have become to dangerous to fish of. Now very especially when it comes to the eclipse and the effects it has on the Tidal changes, it is absolutely visible and have become more and more disruptive to the coastline infrastructure and safety for bathers.

After this, once it's calm again, is the best time to go metal detecting, cos the ocean has washed up old valuable things that were previously hidden. 😊 Sharks are going to be closer to the swimming areas now too cos obviously the shark nets have been washed away. Won't catch me anywhere in the ocean. 😅

Its not high tide. In high tide also the water level doesn't increase so quickly. This wave is caused due to an under sea seismic activity or a storm. It resembles the 2004 Tsunami, which hit southern coast of India, Indonesia.
