He did this on his own because he felt like he owed it to the movie producers. He has said plenty of times that he felt like he "ruined" the movie. Takes balls to do this.

I totally believe he was that nervous. Despite him being quick-witted, clever with words, he's generally very honest. Having watched several longer interviews with him, I've concluded he does suffer from low self-esteem and anxiety. In 2016 he admitted he has had panic attacks out of nowhere. It's in the SAG-AFTRA interview on YT. He was making a joke of it (as he typically does), but he was clearly also sad about it. Panic attacks are no joke, you feel like you're gonna die right this moment. Felt really bad for him.

Strangely, I think the "incident " with Divine Brown made people like him more. He wasn't an insecure man in these matters, he was a man of the world. Hold on a minute, he was ACTING in those early films!

I remember tuning into this way back when and thinking "I wonder what he's going to say". He handled it the right way - I'm not saying he should be excused for his bad behavior because he should not be, but when you're caught doing a bad thing, the best thing to do is to admit that you did something wrong, it was a real d*** move on your part, and now you have to face the consequences which might be to apologize or something else.

He is playing Charles in Four Weddings and a Funeral here, in real life it is well known that he is closest to Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones! Why? Why go through all this just for a movie? You don't even realize the hell he went through after this. His flat was burglarized, his phones tapped, his emails hacked, his car broken into, and he and his loved ones were followed 24/7. That went on for 15 years even after the whole scandal. There is a reason Grant became a whistleblower in the UK phone hacking scandal because he was one of their biggest victims.
