It is nothing short of astonishing how he created a character that smart and fhnny and dark without his native accent.

Undoubtedly, Hugh Laurie is the main reason House succeeded, but there are so many other complex characters who play well off the 'miserable' House character. They are all part and parcel to its success.

Robert Sean Leonard in particular does an amazing job with Wilson, imo. They had an extremely talented core cast that then went on to work with equally talented guest actors, both for single episodes and for reoccurring members of the seasonal plot (not to discount even then on top of that the amazing writing and shots that the show could produce)

I can't think of any character among the House assistants that wasn't great. They all brought their human flaws and exposed them in a hilarious way. I remember this new young girl who knew every trivia question on medecine or science but was so attached to the ethics. She wanted to confront the husband of a patient and house just said better send Foreman an Taub they are better liars.

Hugh Laurie and Christian Bale are the two Brits who you really can't imagine sounding with British accents. They both really nail the American accent so well that it sounds weird hearing them speak any other way.

@@AndreiH1605 right, my comment doesn’t suggest the need for the definition lmao, but obviously idiomatic is a word the majority of people don’t use in their daily vocabulary. Just discovered ‘House’. Watching it for the third time… each time new elements of the dialogue, plots and subplots emerge. The directors, writers, actors and whole crew, have produced a timeless masterpiece with respect to the human condition, with all its foibles, contradictions, ironies, errors, heroics, hedonism and challenges. Many lessons explored and learned, many experiences & philosophies echoed or resembled one’s own life journey… Mr Laurie surprisingly, or perhaps not, delivered an extraordinarily high quality and sustained performance throughout the shows 8 seasons. I first came across Mr Laurie from his early performances in the Black Adder series. He performed those roles very well, but they were kind of lightweight, slapstick almost, which tended to reflect on my estimation of his acting 🎭 repertoire. He has come a long way, He has become a very accomplished actor, musician and singer with a great ‘stage presence’’. Thank goodness he was chosen for the part of Doctor Gregory House. Standing ovation 👏 👏 👏 👏 ❤❤❤❤❤ 💐 💐 💐 💐 to top it off … he seems to have remained a really nice down to earth person…. Hope my impression is right 🤞 . Hope he continues to grace our screens, cinemas, stages, for a long time to come. Thank you 🤩

I think it’s easy for English people to do in American accent because it’s just a derivative of their own but I think American struggle because there are over 600 different regional accents in the UK and they seem to mash them all together.
