Lisa, thank you for the review! Mine just arrived a few days ago and I am very happy so far. On Windows 10 Professional I had no issue with a big resolution on the main display (3840x1600) and the HD resolution on the GT-221 Pro. The drawing surface is real glass satine-finished (or rather etched?). I am very glad I hadn't spent the money for an outdated Wacom product. I can pay my other bills now and use the tablet display with zBrush and all the other apps.

Having a cintiq was an impossible dream for me because of the price of the darn thing, things might change to my favor because of this development. It is either I will be able to buy this huion kamvas or the wacom (cintiq) will make a cheaper version or drop their current prices of their products that I can afford them...an amazing review as always! thanks!
@ren7220

Cintiqs are premium products, they're basically the Gucci of tablets. They're not supposed to be affordable, especially the bigger ones. I hope they release cheaper models too since I am a big fan (recently ordered their 13HD Cintiq for about $1000 total), but even if they don't brands like Huion exist so you can have the pen display you want at a cheaper price. Idk about performance though, I've only used Wacom.

Neji Nii-san I have a wacom one, but pbvsly not a cintiq, i have a 2015 (i think) model, grey black and blue... not sure if its a bamboo or whatever, but was cheap... build quality is "normal" id say... i guess cintiqs should be alot better, obviously, but 22HD is very old and these cheaper ones are new, 100% rgb (as i found some hours ago) and look amazing, specialy for someone that is starting and doesnt have a ton of cash, a cintiq is not a newby tablet, thats for pros with 2k to burn.

OK, this review made me think again. The glass surface texture and accuracy in the centre is almost as important as screen real estate away from the edges. I fully expect these screens to lack accuracy at the edge so actual internal drawing space is really important to me. As long as I can hit the menu buttons reasonably accurately and don't try drawing near the edges - this thing is a good buy.

Im 999% sure ill just waste my time learning zbrush... but i really... ok, kinda... want it... and this is so much better than a regular tablet, so much easier to draw directly on the screen and alot faster to touch buttons on the edges of the display, just click with the pen anywhere. They (from this and other brands) are going for 500€ on sale now, probably could get down to 400€ during black friday. Wacom ones at 1800€ are really out of reach, but these at 500€ it starts to get into reach, its so cool, and their quality tablets, 1080p like wacom 22hd, 21" screen (not the whole tablet just the screen) and its IPS, the zoom toupad is amazing (just scroll down or up on it) and many customiseable hotkeys, its great.

I´ve been using the original GT 220 since 2015 for all my professional work and it has been a fantastic purchase back then when compared to how expensive the Wacoms were at the time. Now i´m going to start using this new GT-221 PRO one because I was fortunate to get one for free at an illustration competition a few days ago and I´m very curious to see if it will perform even better than my current still going stron original GT220. I love the Huion products, have tested a few and so far I haven´t had a single complaint. When I needed help with Mac drivers some years ago the Huion client support was outstanding in solving my issue at the time and so I´m one of those people who are very satisfied with the brand. I´ve been illustrating a ton of books and other illustration projects with their hardware and in the end result clients couldn´t care less if I do it with a Wacom or a HUion because at the end we can get the same results if an illustrator knows its craft anyway. Good review. Can hardly wait for mine to arrive.

I haven´t tested the 220 v2... but I´ve worked with my original GT220 (V1) for three years and it was one of the few screens that could compare to my IMac one in all the best ways. If the 220 v2 is an improvement over the original v1 and they kept the same screen I don´t even know what you may be talking about because I don´t even think I ever noticed any anoying pixels working with it , ever. It never crossed my mind until you mentioned it in your question. I couldn´t have been more happy with my original purchase, never had a problem with the screen or the pens or the hardware in general except that the cables plugged at the bottom was not ideal. From a performance stand point, the screen was amazing in my opinion. In fact, now that Im already using this new GT221 PRO , the only thing I "don´t like" about it is that actually I preffered the clarity of the original GT220 screen. This new GT221 is bigger and the matte screen really is outstanding in performance and "paper texture" feel but the matte coat took much of the original sharpness of the GT220 away. Not that Im complaining because this new 221 is outstanding and the pen pressure is amazing but I miss the sharpness of the original 220 v1 I had. So... anyway... unless you´re really , really picky about resolution you won´t even remember there´s pixels on the GT Huion monitors. Im extraordinary happy with the hardware as I always been since I bought my original 220 in 2015. If you can afford this new GT 221 PRO, despite the screen not being as sharp because of the excellent matte effect I would say get this. The performance is fantastic, the set up is fast and you´ll be painting in no time. Particularly if you have a MAC. These Huion GTs almost seem they were made for MACs when it comes to color handling as in my opinion is better than using it with a pc just for that reason. If you cannot afford this new one, I´m sure you´ll have no problem with the other GTs and Im sure v2 from the original 220 is even better than the one I used for three years, you can see all the artwork I did with my Huions at my www.icreateworlds.net if you care to take a look. I cant help it, Im really a big fan of the Huion brand. I´ve used wacoms and honestly unless you want to spend a fortune to have a 3K or 4K touchscreen , if you dont have that kind of money you cannot go wrong with the Huion GTs. For the price they are amazing. And by the way the client support at Huion is the best I ever encountered. I need to post a video review for my new GT221 and ill be doing that as soon as i can complete some books im doing for clients now.

Just remember these are not 3K or 4K .. i think they are not even 1K screens ahah, but they are really good ones. Don´t expect IPad screens clarity, be prepared for a couple of mute colors but don´t despair. It´s great overall. Make sure you connect using an HDMI and not stick with the standard cables. Particularly if you are using a PC. There is a big difference between using a GT with a PC or a Mac, at least in my experience. The first time I plugged my GT I wanted to give it back because the image looked so bad that I feared I had made a terrible purchase. On the Pc was really disapointing when it comes to color as the calibration was a nightmare. Then on the IMac things were a lot better but still the color calibration was a nightmare to get it right. Then I bought my mini-DP-HDMI cable and things started to look outstanding all of a sudden. Im talking about my original GT220 v1. For this new 221PRO all the setup was outstanding and I had the whole thing ready in 5 minutes. In fact only a couple days ago I noticed that I didn´t even yet calibrated the pen. Im still using with the default settings and its amazing when it comes to performance and acuracy. I read that the GT220 V2 corrected all the crap I had to endure with the setup and calibration issues and it was now a better version than my V1 so I guess you´ll be allright. For the price its a great purchase. If you can use it with a MAC go for it. At least in my case makes a big difference as i need the most professional set up i can find for color acuracy and Mac is a lot better for print in my view and experience over the years working with both. Remember to get a good HDMI cable.

The cables on the side is the best thing ever. It really makes a difference, specialy for me because i have it mounted on an flexible harm. T he Huion comes with a HDMI cable too but not with the one I needed for my IMac which is a mini-DP/HDMI port. The HDMI that comes with the hardware is HDMI/HDMI cable.

Heya Lisa! Thanks for the fantastic review. I noticed that the display on huion tablets look washed out and have low contrast/less noticeable details compared to laptops, but I dont see that issue on the Surface line, is it due to the extra layer of glass on the huion for the digitizer? I own the huion gt191 and its display looks dull and washed out compared to my surface pro 4. I would really appreciate your insight on this matter. Thanks :)

Sorry for stating my opinion the way I will... but how exactly is Full HD more pixely than 2K? Will those 100 or something extra pixels make that big of a difference?.. I mean... It will either be Full HD or UHD these days. 2K panels aren't out there anymore. Also "4K" isn't really 4K... there aren't that many real 4K panels in the market. They are Ultra HD (3840*2160) (It sure would be nice to be 4K nonetheless :3 ). So yeah... If it was 2K it would be even wider and at the same inches count, it would result in less screen height, concluding to less operational height... To sum it up. 2K would't work, it's wider than Full HD and much less convenient when drawing. (the pixely thing doesn't really make sense to me, with all do respect). Your review as a whole though is excellent, thank you for making it.
@SMAAAASHTV
6 жыл бұрын
angel me wut? When people refer to 2k, they are generally speaking about 2560x1440, which is 4x 720p or approximately twice the pixel density than full HD, not the DCI 2k film standard. It may be incorrect terminology, but I don't think anyone outside of the film industry would even suggest a resolution of 2048 x 1080, as 16:9 is the most common aspect ratio, especially when used with computers.

Montisaquadeis You must have windows 10 to have independent dpi settings on the two monitors. Which is necessary if you have a 2k display and a 4k display attached at the same time. But there should be no reason to not being able to have both monitors working independently.

Oystein Soreide generally speaking though, Windows 10 doesn't manage very well having different zooming levels when dealing with a multi monitor setup, so if you are at 150% with your main display you're better off with the same 150% on your secondary display too to avoid all sorts of problems.

Of course you can use monitors of different resolutions in Windows. As I noted, it's a driver issue with most of these clones and it's a problem Wacom doesn't have. Remember, this isn't merely a display- it's a digitizer product and the pen tracking goes completely off when the Huion and PC monitors are different resolutions.

MobileTechReview That is understandable. Thanks. Must the pen displays be a duplicate, or simply same resolution to work?

I have the GT-191 hooked up to my desktop that has 2 monitors and a TV, all run at 1080p with no mirroring and it works fine. I haven't tried other resolution displays.

What is with all this "clones" talk? None of these companies are clones.
@Lilyium

It's a "clone" if they breach the copyright terms i.e putting the logo as Wacom, same naming, not changing any physical attributes of the display etc. She throws the word clone around because she can't seem to call it by it's generalised name apparently.

@@christianschmutz5676 Actually, Wacom is a Japanese company. They manufacture in China, as a lot of companies do, because of the cheap labor cost. That being said, they really have to watch out for Huion and XP-pen, they are catching up real fast and Wacom is absurdly expensive, especially in some countries like mine. Here in Brazil an entry-level level Cintiq (the new 16") costs R$ 5k (something around US$ 1300) which is insane... Luckily competitors are rising up to the challenge

Todd Keller yes and it's super cool, really nice feelings, I may not be partial because it's my first tablet with screen. I really like the mat screen, and you can address shortkey. One drawback, I can only make it works with miror screen. Oh man for 3D sculpt it helps so much, you litteraly sculpting. I am starting to learn anatomy, ear, mouth, nose... I get nice results in short amount of time

Cool- Thanks :) I bet you'd get a ton of hits if you posted a video review showing how it performs with zBrush-- Hard to find any info online about the two working together nicely.
