I was born in whalley range & spent my teens and early 20's in hulme & moss side so stuff like this brings back so many memories.

That's one tough building. Probably would have been one of the buildings still standing after thousands of years if they showed it on the tv series Life after People

Couldn't the council afford a bigger wrecking ball and was it 2000 before he finally demolished it 😍😍

It took longer to demolish than it did to build them. The 4 crecents were put up within 4 months, including roads etc. I watched the old Hulme torn down by demolition and the new Hulme being built, that is if you call it that, it was built like a deck of cards. Towards the end it ended up being a shit hole for scum, all the previous tennants left because of the conditions. People who lived in Hulme and Moss Side had their houses possessed by compulsory purchase order. They got £80.00

@@scottflannigan3062 it’s basically just an extension of the city centre nowadays. Overpriced, not many locals. Devoid of character

Would £80 have bought those former homeowners another property? Can't understand how local authorities are allowed to get away with paying such piddly small sums on a compulsory purchase order.

Used to go to the picture house in Jackson Crescent in the mid 70's. Area did not look too bad from the outside so the probs must have been contained in the blocks. Then one evening in about 1978 I saw the documentary and a follow up in about 1983. It was shocking.

Many would like to see this done to wind turbines around the planet, though at a much faster pace.

At the time when they got the £80 compensation they would have needed about £3,000 to buy another property.
