We can see it from our garden - and in spring and early summer the sun sets above it - sometimes with glorious reds and yellows.

Go to Discover Scottish Borders on Facebook. I’ve posted a link to this video there and a photo of Hume which people have been commenting with their photos, would be good to see your photos too!

The Druid Diaries no worries man, thanks for watching. Well worth a visit if you’re ever in the area. So much more history than I briefly crammed in here.

I am from South Africa and my great grandmother was Hume, struggling to find any information. Today for the first time I found out that it is actually a Scottish surname.

This is great Mark! What's funny is I just discovered your videos last week while finally getting into the dim reaches of my genealogy and finishing up the tree, while researching all the history. By random chance I find this one you did as well of my ancestral home! You're a great character, and I appreciate your obvious love of history you share, with the great filming, music and editing you add. I'll never forget my picnic in this grassy courtyard 20 years ago, enjoying the brilliant circle of sun & blue sky, while all around was clouds & drizzle. Looking forward to returning soon!

Just to be clear for any non Borderers watching. The current structure is a rich mans folly built on the crag where the original castle stood. It’s not an accurate representation of what stood there originally
@MarkNicol123

teslar1 yes I talk about that in the film. There is still the ancient section of wall inside the modern folly. This gives you an idea of how fortified the original was as it is so much thicker and substantial than the new bit. Cheers for watching!

Thank you Mark for a splendid video. The Clan Home will be gathering at the Castle on Saturday 10 September this year (2022) around 1300 hrs . Please feel free to join us. There will be a talk from the archaeologist who has been leading the digs there since you made your video, so we can all learn more about the Castle and the village which surrounded it. The hog-roast lunch will cost a few pounds but buying one will not be compulsory! We hope to have pipers and will raise the Home standard! You will be very welcome. My mother was a Hume, the reason why I am involved.

Eaten by sheep! Sad it looks like the two big old trees on the east side have come to an end. I was wondering what kind of trees they were?
