Our Parents were Our means To come Into this world by the permission of God - it's only rightly so that we dedicate our lives to please them and in turn we please God.
Al-Ahqaf 46:15
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims."
The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said, "Your Heaven lies under the feet of your mother." (Ahmad, Nasai)
Meaning a way of entering Paradise is through serving your mum so much so that you look as if you're her slave.
A man came to the Prophet Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim)
This highlights the importance of Women, the importance of helping your parents.
Abu Usaid Saidi said: We were once sitting with Rasulullah when a man from the tribe of Salmah came and said to him: O Messenger of Allah! do my parents have rights over me even after they have died? And Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: "Yes. You must pray to Allah to bless them with His Forgiveness and Mercy, fulfill the promises they made to anyone, and respect their relations and their friends." (Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah)
Parents are so important that even their friends and companions should be treated with respect even after they have passed on. You should pray for their forgiveness.
Abdullah ibn Amr related that the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said: "The major sins are to believe that Allah has partners, to disobey one's parents, to commit murder, and to bear false witness." (Bukhari, Muslim)
Keep in mind the order in which that is said. After Shirk, disobeying ones parents is above murder in terms of severity in sinning. You can only disobey them when it goes against the Commands of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be upon him) other than that, you have to fulfill their wishes or to communicate with them and make each other understand so that you can reach a mutual agreement.
May Allah grant Our parents the best of both worlds!
