You seemed curious about the cellphone, so to explain, the royal guards and the king were born without the telepathic communication the other ants had, probably because they are way more human than ant, but because of that they need cellphones to talk to each other over distance. I think they were first shown shortly after seizing the palace when Hagya called Pitou to report about the confrontation with Cheetu.

I love that HxH discuss the concept of the human soul🐨 bc here Idk if Gon ever thought about it before...he's still young but also, I never thought about it this way but Gon being so hopeful even with Kite in that state was maybe also bc in GI arc he lost an arm and magically got it back...he knows Hisoka did too... he saw Nen do extraordinary things so even very risky actions could have little consequences so his reckless nature was even more encouraged in that direction in a way...so him thinking that there has to be a way for Kite actually makes sense and the fact that death is still that insurmountable obstacle is even crueler in this HxH world (suddenly it reminds me of Battera losing his lover after having so much hope for so long...Wow the GI arc actually sets so many things for later arcs! once again I'm impressed!) (also reminds me of Gon facing Mike he thought he would be able to communicate with it bc he loves animals but the ants and Pitou aren't normal animals, the very nature of the ants with that mix of animal instinct and humanity created monsters... Gon was scared in front of Mike, Gon felt unbearable anger listening to Pitou expressing human emotions similar to his... both time it didn't make sense, the unknown is scary but smth familiar can be actually worse ...the fact that he can't put them in a category to be able to decide how to deal with them, this is such a fascinating journey. Knuckle, Kite and Netero expressed similar concerns despite having different approaches to that issue) Kite's body suddenly and finally falling as Pitou releases her aura is so disturbing...he was dead but couldn't really RIP and that too hits hard Gon going through the tearing of his soul, his thoughts going in so many directions, that dissociation that happens during a traumatic event when you see yourself and you're unable to move and digest what's happening to you...the show does it so well : the denial, the anger, the guilt, the pain...the feeling that nothing make sense..This is definitely too much for that poor kid... Actually with the foxbear Gon let the cub hurt him bc he knew that despite having innocent intentions he was the bad guy in that story, so he took that pain and anger as an atonement for taking a life ...and now the roles are somehow the same but also reversed : both species claim the same territory, the ants still follow their instinct and the humans too actually even though it's more complex but the ants being part human they also can't have simple motivations anymore...the moral struggle is real😅

You guys’ comments in the show are well said. You see, I am of the opinion that Gon isn’t a psychopath or a sociopath. I actually dislike that narrative, actually. From my observation, Gon Freeces is the result of what can happen when you thrust a 12 year old child into the brutal and harsh world of Hunters: encountering magical and nightmarish creatures, individuals of all sorts of ideologies and desires, ranging from positive (Leorio’s dream) to outright psychotic (Hisoka’s orgasmic desire for fights), etc. When you thrust a 12 year old child into a world that goes beyond modern, normal common sense and thinking, then this is what CAN happen. Just because a child happens to be a bit more mature and full of wisdom than other average children, doesn’t erase that fact that they are, in fact, a child. It makes sense that Gon is desensitized to a lot of unreasonable and absurd things in this world. He grew up in an island, living amongst nature to the point where he had superhuman prowess. His “hypocrisy” comes from the fact that he is a child. As a child, he has a narrow-minded moral ethics. He doesn’t think much too far ahead as to what his moral decisions can imply in the long run. He does what seems morally right as best as he can AS WELL AS what benefits him the most. This episode is what happens when a 12 year old child experiences the concept of revenge and hatred too early in life. A 12 year old should not even be taking part in extreme violence, let alone experience brutal deaths of their comrades at the hands of seemingly incomprehensible monsters. In other words, I like how Togashi puts a spin on the optimistic teenage hero of fantasy stories. In his work, he makes it realistic such that, no matter how mature and experience a child or youth might be in combat or dangerous adventures, he still lets the audience know that the character is still Infact a child. Either through their annoying, uncompromising nature (as we have seen multiple times with Gon), or their inability to perceive the consequences of an action beyond what is convenient for them. While Gon has had his fair share of really tough challenges, notice how his journeys before this arc have been convenient. Unlike other side characters, he has never had to lose a really close friend, because coincidentally, all his friends happen to be strong enough to be able to hold their own in combat. This is his first experience of hatred and revenge- and unfortunately, it is happening at a very early stage of his life. Gon is not a psychopath per se. He is a 12 year old who’s idea of common sense is skewed because of the absurd world he lives in, which has a different idea of common sense. On top of that, he is a 12 year old who, until now had everything going conveniently without the death of a close comrade. No matter how tough things got in previous arc, at least, no one close to him actually died (the four main characters). This is his first experience of hatred and of revenge. This arc is the very first time when things rarely go his way. He, of course, would never take it well. I don’t see a psychopath. I see the expected reaction of a 12 year old experiencing the complexities and nuances that comes with concepts like hatred and revenge, in a crazy-ass world of Hunter X Hunter.

Hes not a psychopath lol that gets exaggerated alot I feel like. And imo saying this is all just a natural reaction from a child is simplifying it aswell. He had alot of flaws from the beginning of the series (pride, self destructive tendencies, guilt etc), in CA his characteristics just got pushed to the extreme. Also I will add that his psychology as a child definitely plays a part into this, its just not the sole reason for it is what I mean
@youthsef

How is he a psychopath tho? Really don’t get it. While him being a child is not an excuse, by definition: “Psychopathy is a severe personality disorder characterized by interpersonal deceptiveness and calloused, remorseless use of others, as well as behavioral recklessness, impulsivity, and overt antisocial behavior (e.g., aggression, violence)” He is definitely not an antisocial and his “aggression” and “violence” is there only when his loved ones are suffer. Imho, that’s common thing to feel when you see and experience such horror in that age. Ofc, he is selfish and egocentric which only rises his “bad” feelings but it’s not making him a psychopath lol. It makes him human What do you think he should feel when he sees someone an absolute evil in his mind (like pitoh) without anything human in it actually doing smth a human could do. Ofc it’s like blowing up his mind so he try to avoid it. But overall he is just selfish, egotistical kid, who was put up in such horrible situation. Not a psycho

I really appreciate how philosophically in-depth you guys go with these discussions, and it’s especially refreshing to finally find reactors who don’t have raging murder-boners towards Pitou too. What Pitou did as a whole was fucked up, don’t get me wrong, but that’s only when you frame it from a human being’s point of view. In all intents and purposes, for the vast majority of the arc, Pitou, Youpi, and even Pouf and Meruem really were just ants: animals following their biological instincts, but especially in Pitou’s case as she’s been essentially programmed from birth to gather food and might for her literal only reason for living: her King. Only recently, upon specific triggers, did all of these ants finally begin to find their humanity, with the exception of Pouf because he’s undisputedly the most ant-like of the Royal four. It’s just really unfortunate that it happened far too late in their expedition for territory- and that’s the thing that makes it possible for the audience to feel any empathy for them despite their horrific actions. They were born to never think of humans as anything but food after all. So the problem in Gon’s case- and something that Kite actually understood- is that there really is no rhyme or reason to take revenge against an animal. Worse yet- an ant: a creature so primitive that it can only ever pursue its instincts. Exterminating an animal is one thing if it’s a serious danger, and there’s plenty of grounds to do so towards the Chimera Ants… but an animal doesn’t know right or wrong, or good or bad, so to take your anger out on it for reasons that only correlate to moral outrage is just foolish and pointless, something a child like Gon could never fully comprehend yet when it personally affects him for the first time. tl;dr: Pitou did nothing wrong lmao get blasted (kidding obviously, but objective perspective really does matter when looking into the moral ambiguity of this arc as a whole, especially when it comes to Meruem and Pitou’s actions).

I think deep inside, gon kind of knew that kite was probably already gone, because when they first confronted pitou when it was healing komugi gon was just ready to obliterate it, which was oddly but understandably illogical compared to how focused he was before. I think it really hits him here because at this point he was completely strung along into believing that this was possible, by pitou, the others, and himself. Of course that’s not necessarily their faults besides pitou, but it just shows that this was more than just kite being taken away. It was as if life was punishing gon and only gon, at least from Gon’s perspective at this point, probably.

I hate the narrative that Gon is a psychopath.. hes a child that is experiencing revenge. Psychopathy is not just a term you use. Psycopathy should be manifested in all his actions, he shows real genuine happiness when he sees killua or has fun with him. He expresses those feelings time and time again. Goes out of his way to help his friends not having the goal of benefitting himself. Its a child that is experiencing a situation that none of us would ever probably experience at 12y of age and has the power to do something about it. Some say Wing said he is a "monster". Where is the proof that this was meant as psychopath. In the context of events it was meant to mean he had incredible power. He is too pure that he doesnt know that he is doing something wrong sometimes either. On last thing about psychopaths, they dont have real friends... do you really believe Gon is like that? If you do then you were watching a different show than I did... This narrative that he is a psychopaths has to stop. A known youtuber saying it, and sheep repeating it does not make it true.
