I got curious, and looked up what Rasetsu means It's apparently the Japanese word for a Rakshasa, a malevolent creature from Hinduism, known for its ability to take the form of humans, but its true form was a monstrous demon with dark powers... The name is rather apt I must say
@rice_lover
11 ай бұрын
It kind of sounds like Buddhist and Hindu chanting, which can sometimes be unsettling depending on the chant. Also kind of sounds like it has some Gregorian chanting influence
@an_oracle
10 ай бұрын
Since this got pinned, I'll say more clearly what I'm alluding to in my comment by saying it's rather apt. A rakshasa isn't a person who transforms into a monster, it's a monster that appears as a human, only to reveal its true form when it needs to. In the same vein, Gon is not transforming into a monster in this scene, because Gon is already a monster at this point. He descended into darkness and hate far before this moment. He is no longer the child of light he was at the beginning of this series. His transformation reveals what he truly is at this point, a monster of darkness robbed of his childhood innocence, represented by the adult form. You might say "he's not a monster he's a man" But the chimera ant arc shows us that there is no greater monster than a man consumed by darkness.

I like that in this arc it was very backwards compared to other anime. Instead of the general "good triumphs over evil" it was more of a "Good becomes evil to triumph". Both Gon and Netero in their last living scenes were depicted with very evil aura and actions being a large contribution to their victories. All the while Meruem is beginning embrace compassion and humanity. Ironically the one trending toward good is the one that dies.

Hobo Joe Gon is kinda amoral. He always avoided killing regardless of who his opponent was, excluding the two chimera ants he killed, but even then he offered mercy, even though it was a prey fighting predator situation. He doesn't even have issue with the Phantom Troupe outside of their attitude towards the death of their own. But this wasn't self defence. He never gave Pitou a chance to surrender. He fully intended to fight and maybe try to kill Pitou after healing Kite. After he learned she couldn't, he gave in to absolute rage and hate. It's not about whether his actions were "evil". Only antagonists had displayed bloodlust as a physical presence before now, and the fact that the most innocent and carefree character in the show ended up becoming the most bloodthirsty of all is what makes this scene horrifying.
@hewhostandsalone

2:12 This is the moment that this track gave me chills. It happens in the anime as the doors are blown open, candles are blown out, dark aura is filling the room, and a formerly innocent boy becomes so consumed with hatred and rage that he throws away everything to destroy. The atmosphere is palpably harrowing. You can feel that something inhuman has awakened in that room.

Normally songs of protagonist gaining new powers and abilities sound energetic, upbeat and cheerful. This haunting song sounds more like mourning/funeral of someone. Which makes sense, considering how "anti-super saiyan" Gon's transformation is. Any time character ahieves a new power it's a sign of them gaining something new and becoming better individuals backed by conviction that will drive them even more forward, Gon transformation is anything but that, it's a needless sacrifice that he makes in moment of complete despair and would cost him his life had not Something healed him.

Human nature that is. The best of it, and the worst. The light like killua said, and the darkness like everybody else said.

@@JV-pt6ht That's the thing about Gon, he's always been an odd one of the group, his best friend is a master assassin belonging to a family of Elite contract killers, he had treated deaths pretty casually in the past and through his hunter training as well, his morality has always been muddled and grey. He'd choose to do the right thing only until and unless it doesn't effect him or his friends. Also, most hunters he had came across saw him as either a being of limitless potential or a potential monster. This arc truly brought his flaws and madness to the surface, and this scene in particular was RAW and unfiltered, he let his madness reign free. The king and Gon were the two sides of a same coin, one found humanity while the other lost it for revenge. We found out that Gon is not a Hero but an Anti-hero protagonist. Something also I find interesting about Gon, how he doesn't really likes showing weakness, sure he cries to killua about it. but through this arc and this scene when his hand gets cut off he just tells killua that he's okay when we as the audience knows that for Gon it's okay to admit that he's in pain and let killua help him, maybe it's his pride or some deep seeded thing that just doesn't allow him to come across as vulnerable to his own friends. just something I found interesting.

As someone who just watched this show for the first time, I found this scene to be up there in a list of favorites. It's strange but honestly awesome how we go from Killua lacking any real emotion to having a vibrant spectrum of feeling over the first 70 episodes. And on the opposite end, Gon goes from being a loveable gentle hearted kid to this cold, empty, and malicious husk that only wants the death of an Ant. It sucked so much watching Killua fret and have heartbreak after heartbreak as his friend was hurting more and more. They're both really sweet kids, but they totally reversed their mentalities during this arc.

@Dice-Z
3 жыл бұрын
@@JV-pt6ht No no, definitely scarier in some ways. You know, Killua said it himself during Greed Island. He is far worse than the bomber. He killed a lot more in cold blood. Hisoka is one of the only ones who comes close, and his relationship with Gon is special. They are almost more akin to rivals than enemies. Let's look at the main villains of each arc. Exam: Hisoka. Point above. He's insane in some ways, and that's the scariest part about it. He's one of the scariest "villain" of the serie in how chaotic he is, and how obssessed he can get. But we see other sides of him where he can act like a decent person if needed, and seemingly not just in a psychopathic way. He's compared to Gon a lot, and Gon is compared a lot to him. Interesting, right? Saving Killua (and the last anime arc, too): Killua's Family. Unsurprisingly enough, some of the scariest villains we got were Killua relative, who is one of the MCs. Says a lot about our MCs. Silva is creepy, the mom is crazy, and Illumi seemingly inherited both traits. Illumi is either a pure psychopath, or a pure narcissist, and his vision of the world is definitely one in which good is whatever benefits or pleases him, and bad is whatever doesn't. Others are never even an afterthought, and their perspective doesn't exist to him. Almost to the point he seems dumb and not so intimidating. In some ways, he is like Gon if you removed all sorts of empathy/sympathy/protectiveness toward friends from Gon. The Tower: Hisoka & the three clowns. Backstabbing sons of bitches willing to resort to any dirty tactic to permanently cripple newbies in their fighting arena so they can get easy wins and get the top floors, getting the good life. They bet their life on fame and money, it didn't work out well, so now they are playing it safe and dirty, rather than just quitting. Until Killua makes them. Sad in some ways, they are terrible people, but rather than scary or intimidating they come more across as petty than anything. Auction: Spiders Boss. He is calm, collected, and while he is a terrorist and a thief, while he did commit and organize heinous acts, he is ultimately morally consitent, has beliefs, does seem to have the ability to act humanely, was ready to try to explain his ideals to gon rather than outright offing them, and is shown to care about those he feels are his peers, the reason he did the terrorist acts in that act in the first place. Initially they just wanted to steal shit and that's it, Kurapika is the one who went out of his ways to provoke them, even if we can't blame him. Whatever twisted sense of moral, or robinhoodness he may have, he certainly isn't crazy and has seemingly shown that he avoids force unless he deems it necessary for a purpose. He acts almost kind of nerdy in some instances, kind of aloof in some others. It drops him a few steps from the "intimidating" ladder. There's a few members that seem to be worse than him, but not completely hopeless. Feitan and the other blond guy showed some respect toward Gon and Killua at the end. They respected the code they go by, their ways to approach life, and likely their skills for such age aswell. They could have done Pakunoda dirty, but they didn't. Greed Island: Bombers. Assholes? Sure. Murderers? Sure. Willing to do anything to get money, even kill kids? Sure. But that's just greed, not truly evil, not insane evil. Unscrupulous, but not inflicting harm for the sake of it. Even if he wasn't willing to give up, and ready to resort to dirty strategies if he needed to, he still likely would have spared gon if he gave up. He acknowledged Gon as being far more insane than he is, a different kind, presumably refering to how suicidal Gon is. He's shown that he isn't completely selfish when he asks for his partners in crime to get healed, and that he is sane enough to admit defeat when it is wise to. He has this very meek and self reflective attitude at the end. Almost like he could get a change of heart and befriend the MCs. Binolt i started to feel sorry for him by the time he turned himself in. A bit too cliché in some ways. He lost some scariness near the end of that fight. Chimera Ants: Meruem. Do i need to explain anything? It's a being that came into being with god like power, sought a purpose while all of his subjects tried to convince him that he is to dominate the world and human race. He did commit a few horrible things in the search of who he is, what he must do, and what he wants to do. He has been short tempered a few times, and looked down on some humans for reasons that are not excusable, but understandable. Most if not all of his acts were just genuine curiosity, and never malicious intent. He quickly ended coming to term with his ant and human side, and decided that his role was to maintain balance, protect valuable humans and such. After dying, his opinion further progressed into one where he finally respects humanity and admits defeat. He finally understands, and his position is one of the least evil one a character could have by then. Power is to protect the weak. He spends his final moments making a few amends here and there, contemplating a few things, and being by the side of the human he grew fund of, making her happy in the process. The three guards and a few ants were evil, but most of them were too silly crazy, not intimidating, cool, or just a mixed bag. Youpi ends up kinda cool, Flamboyant moth man is too hard to take seriously, and Pitou had the scariest moment... but also seemed kind of pitiful and stoic in the end. Dark Continent: Hard to tell for now, there's a few princes that seem evil, like the fourth, but he's also able to be friendly and almost kind of attached toward those he deems worthy/smart/strong enough. Plus a few other details in his interactions, but we don't know much yet. One thing to really appreciate about this show is that the characters are anything but one dimensional. Most of the non-main villains weren't any worse than the ones above, a lot of them were just ultimately thug wannabes that aren't all that harmful, the few truly evil ones being few and far between.

Gon fits the willing the kill bit and powerful but at first he isn't that strong and only with his covenant does he get super strong. Up until that point we are led to believe that Gon is just a normal kid with nen. He ends up showing us that he's willing to go to insane lengths to destroy those he deems worthy of it. He's unstable and maybe evenselfish I'd say. He just does things he thinks are right. He's all of those things and he's just a kid. I think he's like what? 14? When he kills pitou. Not saying Gon should've brutalized Pitou here, but first she kills Kite - who is the closest thing to a father that Gon had by then, then turns his body into her personal doll. Uses this body to fight against Gon and co. Tells Gon while in tears that she can heal Kite. Only to tell Gon that she was lying in order to save herself time to heal the King's shogi rival and love interest. And then proceeds to tell Gon that she brought him alone there purposely to kill him. I don't think I'll do what Gon did, but the disgust I will feel at that moment cannot be captured in words. Gon is a 13-14 year old without a well developed moral compass. Sure, what he did there was evil, but Gon himself isn't evil, and I can completely understand him. I don't think Killua is evil either. I actually think he's just a product of his family. As the story develops he reveals himself to be a very kind person.

If you’re fooled into believing his ‘happy go lucky’ demeanour for too long, you’re clearly watching the wrong show. He’s not a child, he’s a living embodiment of a monster. So I think we might see more and more competition there and surely better products over the time, so there will be less and less "distance" between MadHouse and the rest (sadly Toei animation doesn't seem to follow that dynamic.) Everything about this scene from an outside perspective should be straightforward. A boy turns into a demon of extreme power and a quivering choir plays in the background. It feels like a main villain appearing in the shot for the first time. We should be excited for what's to come: a grand beatdown well deserved. It's gonna be be bloody. It's gonna be one sided. I love how Hunter x Hunter turns out the table one more time with this one, while on a regular shonen a ''Power Up'' like this should be a moment of celebration and relief, the hero got more powerful thank to his wrath and care, now he may be able to defeat the villains. But in Hunter x Hunter, this power up doesn't arise from a wish of diligence, wrath because your concern for your friends. It merges from a selfish wish of vengeance and complete lost of hope and the feeling that life doesn't matter anymore, there is no hope, and you don't feel relieve, they establish quickly that because of this, Gon is GOING TO DIE, even more when Gon uses this power for the only purpose to kill Pitou, he doesn't care about the King or the other ants, he did all of this because he only wanted to kill Pitou.

Benny Fair fax he’ll never go into that form again it’s basically a suicide move didn’t you see what happened to him after he reverted back he looked like a shriveled up californian raisin he gave up his natural talent his ability to use nen and his life span just to kill one royal guard.Ging stated that it could be reawakened again bet even if it does cons not doing that ever again.

Davis Okeke I don’t know, gons a fucking savage so who knows man, chance is low but never zero. Plus, when he grows up he probably will be that powerful, so there is no reason to worry he won’t get all powerful again. That is if they make more episodes

I would say this is one of the most epic scenes I've seen. There are other scenes out there that are epic in a different way I'm sure, but watching the lead up and then climax of this one just hits completely different. Literal kid sacrificed his life, years of training he won't get back, future, talent, potential, and ability to use nen completely, which wouldn't let him find his father- the entire plot of the story til that point. JUST to kill this one chimera ant, not even the whole chimera ant hierarchy. That's a different level of anger. There's epic anime fights where a certain character gets angry, and then a smooth fighting sequence takes place and it's all flashy and cool, and then there's literally seeing the epitome of rage implode inside of a person to the point where literal monsters are terrified, with a completely brutal and lopsided fight taking place afterwards.

I find it funny how many people are surprised when gon snaps in the chimera ant arc, its like did you forget the kid was willing to die than give up to hanzo and blew his fucking hand off cuse he wanted to test his limits, gon will murder you and smile about it later with his friends, the kids got issues lol I like him.

It's surprising if you watch a lot of Shonen and get used to the stereotypes and don't expect HxH to be different. If you go in blind, then Gon is a typical Shonen protagonist who will do crazy things by being straightforward like Luffy. You'd expect for everything to turn out good like in other Shonen. Especially for its time and how long the series was running. I do think its kinda lame how he always gets healed though.

Humans can actually do this in real life, the brain restricts how much force you can output to your muscles, if you used full force to pick up something your muscles would tear, that's why you hear stories about a man lifting a car off his son in a accident because at that point your brain is telling your body to use everything no matter the cost even if you destroy your body forever.

This scene concluded one of the craziest arcs any shounen character went through. Gon turned from the best human to the worst human. He was using a sick, blind woman as a bargaining chip. She almost didn't register as human, especially when he was cutting out pieces of her operation time (refer to "you have 10 fewer minutes"). At the end of all of this, his mind is crushed, and then he stops giving a fuck and, essentially, sells his soul to Nen for assured vengeance.

This theme alone terrifies me more than any horror movie i've ever seen, that scene is simply a masterpiece, how the most innoccent and kind boy becomes that, when you looked into Gon it was like looking at death itself, really really terrifying, what an amazing scene, and poor Pitou, she sure did some killings but facing Gon in that form.. holy shit, she didn’t deserved that.
@royalgod8218

I wish people wouldn’t take this scene out of the context of the CA arc in terms of Gon’s character. One of the points of that arc was to show that good people could perform evil deeds in order to win when confronted by their image of evil. This scene doesn’t make Gon a “monster” or a bad person in general. Besides, do you guys remember what Pitou was like when she/they was first introduced?
