The Aussie Fisherman Greg, fishing for mudcrabs in the mangrove creeks of North Queensland. It's an early start to my day ,catching crabs.
When the mud banks are showing, because the tide is only halfway in. I like to look for crab diggings. That's where the mudcrabs have been digging, looking for food in the mud. Sometimes, it will only be females or under sized male mudcrabs doing the digging. But other times it's the big male mudcrabs turning over the mud to get food. So it's worth putting a crabpot in that spot.
Sometimes, I miss judging the crabpot rope and get it tangled around the propeller. Which uses up valuable crabbing time. The tide doesn't wait for even The Aussie Fisherman Greg, haha. So I have to be careful not to get the rope around the prop.
My 90 hp Yamaha outboard is the most reliable and great motor for my job. I would highly recommend Yamaha outboard motors.
I put in a fresh Mullet head in the ultimate pro crabpot. The Mullet releases an oil that I think attracts the crabs.
See how I always have the hooks that are on the bait box and the door to the crabpot facing me.
When I am sitting down to tie up the crab, that way, I don't have to turn the crabpot over or around and upset the crabs in the crabpot. That only starts them fighting and damaging each other.
This is how to check if the mudcrab has any meat in it. If the crab is soft, where I show you in the video, just release him and give him a chance to fill up with meat.
Showing how to pick up a mudcrab and tie them up, all this is in some of my previous posts.
In Queensland, it is illegal to take female and under sized mudcrabs, so they have to be released back into the water.
