Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas at 3:50am CDT, with winds near 85 miles per hour and an recorded central pressure of 979mb. Beryl is moving inland and dumping very heavy rainfall over large population centers, including Houston. Numerous Flash Flood Warnings remain in effect throughout the day, and tornado impacts are possible particularly later on.
Beryl is weakening after landfall and is likely to be down to a tropical depression by tomorrow morning as it enters Arkansas. Strong winds and a storm surge of up to 7 feet battered the coast of Matagorda County, with gusts near 100 miles per hour.
Elsewhere, an area of interest has now been marked for possible formation in the South China Sea this weekend into early next week. A typhoon cannot be ruled out for the coast of Vietnam.
