Hurricane Fly became the first horse since Comedy of Errors in 1975 to regain the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle.
Ridden by Ruby Walsh, the legendary hurdler was on the bridle rounding the home bend and would take the lead approaching the second last hurdle and from there it was obvious he would not be passed. Winning by impressive two and a half lengths from the 2012 champion, Rock On Ruby, it will surely go down as one of the most popular victories in the history of the race.
'The Fly' would complete an opening day treble for the Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh partnership, with Walsh hailing the hurdler in his post-race comments: "What he has along with all the class, is an unbelievably big heart for a small horse and he is as tough as nails. He has never been short of stamina or guts and he jumped the last when I needed one today."
