The hurricane was over after more than 18 hours of rain and wind and noise.
8:00 AM : We walked around the yard to survey the damage. At this point, we were just happy to have survived. It hadn't hit me yet. I was in shock mostly. Stunned.
All of our gardens were under water. Our beautiful Tab tree had broken and fallen over. The pergola we erected in June was destroyed. The shed was completely gone. Pieces of it were in what was left of the wooded area across the street.
Our bamboo trees were bent and somewhat barren of leaves. We lost newly planted trees and bamboo where the water accumulated in the back.
Our kitchen ceiling leaked water for hours because the 155 mile per hour winds blew water into the roof vents and that's where it escaped ... through the ceiling lights and vent.
We walked around the block to see what damage had occurred and to get the pups out of the house after being cooped up inside for 24 hours. It was unbelievable and left us speechless.
The power went out at 5pm the day of the storm. We had no power, no internet connection, no water, our cell phones were dead. Unbeknownst to us at the time, it would stay that way for 10 more days.
We hooked up our little generator so we could get water from our well and rig up the electricity to try to cook and to have some lights for awhile after dark.
We began cleaning up the mess in our yard.
