Robert Baker Jr. shoved his paralyzed father onto a queen-sized mattress as water rushed into his childhood home. He floated to the ceiling, with his mother and wife, until their faces were the only parts of them above the water. The surge was dark and salty, with whitecaps breaking as it tore through the neighborhood carrying almost everything it hit - furniture, picture frames, pieces of glass and thick clumps of sea grass from the Gulf of Mexico.
