Glad to hear that you both were safe and had no damage. Quick question, what is the vent on the side of your house that you showed and spoke about it flapping. What is that for ?

Thanks for your great question. It was the vent for the stove/microwave. The microwave vent hood vents directly through the exterior wall and it has a flap/damper that is normally closed but excess wind, like we had, can cause it to flap. I didn’t explain it very well so thanks for your question.

Loved this! No power in pieces of MC so we’ve decided to purchase a generator(wonderful neighbors lent us there’s). Neighbors all coming together..offering help, ideas, phone charging, etc. If just moving here pack a blow out box w/ battery, glasses case, blanket, flashlight, gallon bags, rechargeable portable phone chargers, deck of cards(thank you n’bore). So glad for the builders of these homes…SOLID, so grateful for the linemen and most of grateful for our friends here.

Thanks so much for sharing and you nailed it; so many people helping one another which is so great. These houses are rock solid and we are talking about a generator as well. Thanks so much again for sharing your experience and yes the linemen are true selfless heroes.

So glad you fared well. Thanks for the great information. I have always lived on the western side of the U.S. so hurricanes would be totally new to me. I can't remember, do you live on a corner lot or no? Was wondering if corner lots would have more damage to fences, etc. since they aren't protected by houses on either side. Also, did the birdcages of your neighbors survive other than the one that had a tree fall on it? And I was very concerned about your cute puppies. How did they handle the storm? Personally I would be scared, especially with loud wind noise. But I was in the huge earthquake in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1989, so I guess I can handle stuff okay. Again, very happy you and your family did well. Take care. Cindy 🐩🐩

Great questions and thanks so much. I was thinking the other day about the difference between an earthquake and a hurricane; one is so sudden and the other usually allows us time to prepare, but both are so devastating. We have a corner lot but our side and back fence are concrete so they aren’t going anywhere. The gates and small portion by our neighbors is vinyl but it is in good shape. The birdcages seem to be more vulnerable but that stands to reason; they really aren’t designed to withstand 70+ mph winds. This is probably the storm with the most significant impact to this area in a very long time. Puppies did great; we had no thunder/lightning so they were very calm which surprised and delighted us. Thanks again for your great questions and comments. And as others have said so ably; everyone here is helping one another so we can all make it through. Love the community here and you would be just fine.

Thanks. Earthquakes are scary as you have no warning, except my dogs jumped off the couch with their tails between their legs about 1 second before the 1989 quake started. They knew. The ground felt like you were standing on a raft on the ocean - like liquid earth. Anyway thanks for your response. Sounds like the people in The Villages are super helpful to people in need which is great. I am looking forward to starting my journey there. Won’t be too long now. Cindy

I am sure that they are scary, but animals have such a sense of impending danger. We look forward to welcoming you, let us know when you arrive.

Thanks so much and we were truly blessed. We continue to pray for those in harms way; we just passed some houses that were surrounded by water. Last night we saw a young mother carrying her baby into the grocery store, she was wearing waders.

We had minimal damage near Spanish Springs. Just one panel of our birdcage torn. A neighbor just 3 doors down had her birdcage shredded over her pool. Glad you all had no damage.

Thanks so much and so glad that you only had minimal damage. It seems like birdcages were especially vulnerable, and I can understand why; we have so many of them here in TV. Thanks again.

Great question! They did great, and much better than a normal thunderstorm. We also heard this from family about their dogs. One thing may have been that we didn’t have thunder or lightning, which was a surprise.
