Logan is right. Listen people, hurricane Andrew devastated Florida on 1992. It was coming just like this Dorian and people lost everything, they did not have electricity for 3 months. Their houses, nothing was left of them. The guy with the boat, don't joke, you will loose it. I live in PR. Maria was a monster, no communication, no cellular communication, no phones, no electricity at least 7 months on where I live. You better get lots of drinking water, lots of cash because everything will be closed and you will need cash to be able to buy anything, ATMs will not be working, fill your tanks with gas and get at least 3,x 5 gallon tanks filled too. Food-, get canned food at least 2 cans per day for each person for 3 months. Supermarkets will be closed or ripped apart. Check on Andrew's videos here and you will see how Florida was left. Here in PR we had more than 3,000 deaths. If you live on the beach or close, leave immediately, don't wait for the winds to start to leave your place, you won't be able to. Go now! I will be praying for you. Most houses over there are wood, they won't hold. Mine is all cement including ceiling and my glass window, the only one I had in glass was the first to go on Maria. My husband and I had bought a new door which was not installed yet and we had to put it against that window because the wind was so terrifying that our furniture was being moved by it, inside the house, yes, you read well, inside. Good luck, God Bless you.

Sighs, I hate it when amateurs put together a emergency preparedness kit. the 3 day food and water isn't going to cut it. they assume 2 meals a day and that one small food bar and one small water box is 1 meal. Not in any real world situation. That's part of the minimum kit you keep in the car all the time. NOT YOUR HOME KIT. Home kit should have 9 easy prep meals per person ( I recommend a boil in package brand ) , water purification tablets, cheese cloth and cotton rags (clean), and 1 gallon backup water. When possible use the cheese cloth and cotton to filter water you find, boil it with 1 tablet while you make your meal. If alone (1 person kit ) pack 2 cans of Sterno (petroleum cooking jelly) , a small pot and a lighter. If it's a family kit small light weight cooking stove, 1 pot, 2 canisters of gas. A good kit should actually be 2 bags. one for food, etc and one for gear. I am not going to put a full kit together here but I will mention a couple of items most kits never include. At least 1 roll of quarters, preferably 2. Anything from paying for a phone call (yes those do still exist) to having to do laundry from a shelter. GAMES. at least 1 pack of playing cards and a couple of those small 'car sized' games for kids. If you are stranded without power anything to take your mind off the situation helps. Finally make sure to pack some bath towels. These can become your blanket, your pillow, or even a bandage for a seriously injured person were you have to apply pressure, etc. This is the thing you put together for worst case situations, and hope never to have to use.
@monicabct

@loganskiwyse7823

@@monicabct I really should do a full kit setup and find a organization to post it to the public. I do have a little bit of a advantage here. Not only have I lived through (indirectly thankfully) everything from hurricane's to wildfires to earthquakes but I also worked in a store in California that sold the generic kits. First thing we as employees did is add a card with info like I posted but also put together and sell a secondary kit that was much better designed. To bad the store was closed up 20 years ago. One thing I didn't mention, but add in a upper line Swiss army knife. If it really is a life or death situation, you will be glad to have even that small of a "tool kit". I have the top of the line version and even in non-emergency situations I have never regretted that purchase. Also I find that large gym bags are the best choice for home made kits. Holds more then a backpack but still easy to carry.

Things I would pack as well, let’s say for a family with a infant or toddler, for a infant you would want to pack 2-3 cases of diapers, don’t bring them in the box, if the bag they are wrapped in looks secure take that, if not package them in ziplock freezer bags and put them in a backpack with multiple compartments, you’ll want to use ziplock bags for things like baby powder and bottle nipples if your not breastfeeding, there are special formulas that are prepackaged in bottles, check expiration dates on these premixed ones as you may not have access to clean drinking water, if you know there will be clean water package 2 cases of your choice brand baby formula in small recycling bags and tie shut until you are at a dry area, make sure to pack wipes, pacifiers, and medications, package clothing in zip lock bags as well, you will want multiple clothing for infants and check diapers frequently, if that blue line is showing change the diaper right away

The flag should have been pulled per the flag code. the best time to check your insurance is before the season even begins. Take pictures as well and keep with insurance papers. Most of what was said to do during the warning should be done in the watch time. Especially since these can intensify quickly.
