@Pat Gray Do you think insurance companies could stay in business if they just paid and paid and paid for whatever family members wanted, whether or not the patient was actually benefiting? What do you think would happen to YOUR premiums if that were the case? Perhaps you have insurance through a job, and pay only a small portion of the actual cost of your insurance. Do you think your employer will just pay an unlimited amount for your insurance? Or maybe you're clueless because you're are covered by Mummy and Dad? As for your silly belief that there's some supernatural being who gives a rat's ass about whether an insurance company provides a certain benefit--well, that's beyond moronic. If there WAS a "god" which interested itself in such things, wouldn't it be more efficient if it just cured the afflicted person? (Or, I don't know, maybe DIDN'T AFFLICT HER IN THE FIRST PLACE???????) You are an idiot.

@@arkvsi8142 when people have these kinds of serious brain injuries you often don’t live all that long afterwards, usually at most a few years. Our bodies aren’t meant to just lay around all day not moving and when there’s that much brain damage other systems can be affected like digestion, respiration, etc. So often the person ends up getting an infection or pneumonia or something and they die because they’re already in a medically fragile state.

In the developed world, I think this only happens in the USA. I know in UK, if you need therapy, you get therapy and it costs nothing as everyone pays into the NHS as a percentage of their earnings and it's not missed. This is what happens when greedy people mix profit with healthcare. Americans: vote out the politicians who back this cruel practice.
@donnaknudson7296
5 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the UK but I have heard from many sources that in Canada you can wait so long for a needed operation that you can die waiting. In the US, that doesn't happen. Also, from what I understand, the more socialised a system becomes, the more the system becomes a rationed one, where a group of people in the system decide who lives and who dies, who gets a certain treatment and who does not. In the US, medicine is becoming more socialised, but not in a way that is helping the patients. Good aspects of competition is being phased out, so now some doctors are starting to just not accept patients with Medicare (the insurance every elderly or disabled person has) because it doesn't pay enough and does not let the doctor treat the patient in the best interests of the patient. There are too many controls now. Also, now doctors are pressured to see patients for only a ridiculously small bit of time. The insurance company will not let a doctor see a patient for more than that amount of time even if the doctor does not charge the patient or the insurance more! I am no expert, but I don't know that any one system is more humane over another. They all seem corrupt in one way or another and all seem to have too many people attached that do not have the best interests of the people at heart.

Would your doctors continue to advocate for such intense therapy though after a year and a half with such little improvement? The only motion I saw in her entire body was her eyes. I'm not trying to be harsh here, but if 18 months of therapy have made no discernible difference, perhaps it is time to look at the potential improved quality of life can be achieved with additional intense physical therapy. It's possible Canada's system would've transferred her to basic care only 6 months in.

It has been over a year, and she looks pretty bad to me, if i was the partner i wouldn't want her to live like that! My partner and i have always said if either was left in more or less a vegetative state, do the kind thing and put us out of our misery! The woman he knew has gone, and unlikely coming, back time to face reality, however heartbreaking it must be, and the cost of the care is insane, he can't expect anyone to keep paying that each month, they have already paid out over a quarter of a million, with little to no improvement, you have to draw the line somewhere, sorry just my opinion!
