Funny. I kind of went in reverse. Was listening to speed metal and stuff like REM and U2 in the late 80s. I heard a Husker Du song I loved on the radio from a local independent station in the Midwest (KFMH), but didn't quite get the band name. I thought it was Hoodoo Gurus and when I finally found a song of theirs, I realized that wasn't right. I had a friend who listened to a lot punk and new wave and I think he finally got turned on to Husker Du and was playing one their songs and I was like "That's it! That's the song I heard" It seems now like a logical progression that I would get into the Pixies and later Nirvana. The Pixies are still my favorite of those bands. Got to see Nirvana and the Pixies in concert and I also got to see Bob Mould on his first solo tour (Workbook). I thought it was going to be like the album (quiet and introspective), but I think he'd changed his approach to playing it live and it was the loudest concert I'd ever been to.

Hehehe, I`m from Norway and Husker Du is my alltime favorite band. Husker du means ``Do you remember`` in norwegian and danish. Huker du also got an old song named Do you remember. Yes, it was also a boardgame and the band is from Minneapolis where there are a lot of people with scandinavian (espacially norwegian) ancestry.

I recall spring of '87 when this album appeared into the consciousness of most college-aged music fans across the USA. Husker-rock was all the rage--and they were really only just getting started, I was 15. However, it was this song that really bent my mind. So crushing, so fast, so melodic, so full of good sense, dynamics & groovy. The bridge reminded me of a 70's pop song turnaround section you might hear in an old Kinks tune, and a guitar solo of Pink-Floyd-psychedelia. ITS A GEM!

Just getting around to hearing this band, at 35, having heard "about them" here and there my entire existence. Must say...... it is definitively clear an entire sound of the mid to late 90s and even very early 2000s, least in the non extreme or metal sector of band music, pretty much owes its existence to this sound created by Husker Du. It is incredibly uncanny how recognizable this is while having never heard it ever. I think i have unique ears to hear this chain through time that starts with them having not grown up listening to them. My ears are fresh, and now hearing them,,,,,, oh yeah. much of music after them clearly owes them a few shoutouts.

Between about 1983 and 1986 Husker Du were critical darlings and hugely popular on US college radio. Signed to SST and touring almost year-round trying to scratch out a living playing shows because label owner Greg Ginn never paid anybody a single dime. Then the Huskers jumped ship to Warner Bros and found themselves no longer welcome on college radio, but not big enough to make any money on a major either. Almost exactly the same situation The Replacements (and the Pixies) found themselves in a couple years later.
